(Yes, Canadian money looks like Monopoly money).

this is the case with a lot of the world’s currency outside of the US. and it’s made with, like, plastic or something

To be honest, colourful money makes sense for people who are visually impaired. I can’t imagine being elderly or having poor vision and trying to figure out which note is which when it comes to American money.

The money also has the denomination printed on it in braille, something I’m pretty sure other countries have as well.

It's bad. A dude on the CBC comment section decided this was sexist and is totally writing white men out of history.

Totally agree, but it will never happen. She’s from Alberta. Quebec, she’d be on there already.

While the flip side of the $100 bill shows a woman scientist peering down a microscope, she isn’t identified.”

This would never happen in ‘Murica. We don’t believe in women or science here. A woman scientist? You crazy.

Totally who I was going to nominate. I was in Reach for the Top when I was in high school (Canadian nerd cred, yo), and our team used to infuriate everyone because, whenever a question started “This female Canadian novelist” we would buzz in before they finished and yell “Margaret Atwood!” We were never wrong.

Ahahaha that is awesome, I loved that show! My friend was on it once, and one of the questions was like “name the four gases that make up most of our atmosphere” or something like that and he answered “nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen, carbogen” on national television hahaha, and they totally gave it to him. Thank you for reminding me of that beautiful memory, I have tears in my eyes from laughing so hard

A lot of the famous five were into Eugenics. I think Agnes McPhail is really the only correct option for the new note. I won’t be happy with anyone else really.

I still don't get why Hamilton is being pulled from the $10. First Secretary of the Treasury, a pretty unsullied character, and, as we know know, a heck of a rapper. Jackson, on the other hand, only has a few episodes of good ass-kickings on his record, and was otherwise a completely irredeemable asshole. Change out the $20 to someone more admirable, or at least turn it into a "rotating gallery" of historic figures.

It makes me so angry. Hamilton’s flaws were all on a personal level (temper, womanizer, bad duel habit) that didn’t hurt anyone beyond himself and his immediate circle. Whereas, Jackson was a literal genocidal maniac. He flouted the Constitution by ignoring the Supreme Court’s decree that he not commit genocide. His flaws are a national stain on our country.

Plus, as the sort of founder of the Democratic party Republicans would have a hard time really getting outraged over it. And, hopefully, Democrats wouldn’t be upset about getting rid of him.

I agree, but the 10 is finishing a round of circulation, so it wouldn’t be nearly as pricey to finish. I would far rather replace Jackson though.

Mary Ann Shadd Cary! I know she was also American - but she did amazing work while she lived in Canada:

    - opened schools for black children

-first black woman in North America to publish a newspaper

    -campaigned against slavery and discrimination

-published educational pamphlets and books about moving to Canada

-created support systems in Canada for people who escaped slavery to help them get settled and set up

Canadian citizen, died 120 years ago. Totally counts.

She advocated for a lot of people’s rights and was a pacifist (but still voted to enter WWII). She was pretty badass. I think she’s the best fit for the new note since all the others were politicians and she helped pave the way for women in politics.
