      I thought you meant “something vaguely bathrobe-esque” but I looked at the pic and nooope, that is a fucking bathrobe that someone attacked with scissors when they realised it needed to look a bit less like a bathrobe. So now it looks like a bathrobe styled by an angry falcon, which is not a huge improvement.

      I agree! I think the cut of the dress looks great on her, but the beaded stuff looks kind of weird to me.

      I feel for her. I have a friend who pretty much always looks as flawless as Michelle Obama, and it’s tough to be photographed with her.

    Those are two beautiful couples; good looking, accomplished, polished. This morning I saw the pictures of the gir...young ladies and got weepy. I can’t even imagine the level of pride that the Obamas feel...but it is soooooo well deserved.

      All of these pictures just give me the warm and fuzzies. And I get the impression that if in some unrealistic circumstances you or me or any random person ended up having dinner/drinks with the Obamas and Trudeaus, they would all be super lovely and down-to-earth and you’d never be made to feel like you were any different from them.

    Michelle Obama always looks strikingly good but there was something about her hair last night that made her look exceptionally stunning. Seeing Malia and Sasha Obama there, both looking so lovely, was a real treat and, for what it’s worth, I loved Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau’s gown: she’s got a pretty unique style and is committed to giving Canadian designers exposure.

    Lastly, a special shout-out to Barack Obama for taking the time to praise Justin Trudeau’s mother — Margaret — who was in attendance:

    “We also see Canada’s spirit in your mother’s brave advocacy for mental health care, and I want to give a special welcome to Margaret Trudeau tonight “.

    She received a standing ovation — led by Michelle Obama — and, damn, this woman deserves all the applause. Bravo, Margaret.
