FUCK these people and let’s let them lie in bed dying of meningitis and see if they refuse fucking medical care. Reminds me of my religious zealot cousin who refused to get prenatal care and insisted on a half-assed home birth but quickly raced her ass to the hospital when the baby wasn’t breathing and needed a MEDICAL DOCTOR but science is bad right?!?!

This is what I envision whenever someone talks about doing a home birth.

I know it’s probably fine if you know what you are doing but Jesus Christ I want a doctor THERE in case of any of the many things I can think of in case something goes wrong.

Off topic: About a year ago I had this never-ending stuffy nose nasal drip bullshit thing going on that mostly just made me really snotty and cranky for about three weeks. I dragged my ass into work every day, though (no one else got sick). About a week in, my boss’s boss is all, “Hey, I heard that if you cut an onion into slices and put them in your socks, it will absorb some of the toxins or whatever and you’ll feel better overnight — you should try it!”

I am 1.) not a fucking moron and 2.) not interested in earning a nickname like “Onion Toes” at work, so I politely declined with a “I’ll stick with my expectorant, but thanks!”

She proceeded to bring up this “home remedy” at least three more times.

      *serenity now*

She has an MBA. And two grown kids. I know she believes in science because of the work we do. It totally boggled my mind that she was stuck on this. She tried to explain that she saw a video and the onions turned black overnight. I had to point out that 1.) that was probably faked and 2.) onions do oxidize when exposed to air so that would happen just sitting on a kitchen counter. She only brought it up twice more after that.

      *reaches for the vodka*

tl;dr W. T. F. is with people’s obsession with the curative powers of ONIONS?!

I have the same snotty issue at the moment and someone told me to put peppermint oil on my feet.

Honestly, it’s to the point right now where I will try anything.

I am livid reading this. LIVID. BabyStu is 2 and even with the pneumococcal vaccine, meningitis is one of the worst fears parents have. Whenever your toddler gets really sick, it’s a panicked couple of days of trying to get them to communicate with you. Does your neck hurt? Do you think they’re moving jerkily/stiffly? How high of a fever is a concern?

It’s terrifying. Every damn time. This illness moves fast, faster than seems normal. FUCK these people for thinking their bullshit roots are better than medical intervention which has worked incredibly hard to overcome something dangerous and deadly.

My dad almost died of meningitis when I was a kid. For the rest of her life, my mom will have a panic attack when anyone in the family gets a stiff neck.

A high school band mate of mine died of meningitis. He was absolutely fine the night before (came back from a field trip with him), complained to his mom that he had a stiff neck around midnight, and was dead by 10am the next day. Horrifying stuff.

... a mixture of apple cider vinegar, horse radish root, hot peppers, mashed onion, garlic and ginger root...

I’m preeeetty sure I once saw this sold at my local drug store as “The Hollywood Miracle Diet” (aka, you will piss 15 pounds out your ass and promptly gain it back).

My grandmother used mixtures like this when she had a cold or a sore throat. Mashed onions and ginger actually work pretty well for that, but you shouldn’t use them for anything else.

This goes so far beyond the anti-vaxx movement. It's one thing not to vaccinate your child. It's another thing not to take him to the hospital when HE IS DYING. Anti-vaxxers are obtuse. These people are murderers.

To be fair, this couple is way, way, way worse than just anti-vaxx, they refuse real medical care, period.

Not to defend anti-vaxxers, whom I think are a menace, but there are lots of anti-vaxxers who otherwise embrace standard medical care.
