I recently got into it with my brother about feminism (his position is that equality has been achieved so there is no need for a feminist movement). Maybe I need to show him this documentary Clockwork Orange style.

And just a moment to express my fervent desire that no harm ever comes to Dr.Parker, he is a hero.

No offense, but I would suggest you stop wasting time on your brother and focus your energy on anti-choice women.

This woman is a brave soul for making this important film. I had to take a deep breath to keep myself from crying while reading this. Why don’t these people just leave women alone?

me too!!! I kept having to like go check my email and whatnot inbetween reading this because I was just going to be bawling at my desk.

The excerpts on John Oliver killed me. It’s going to be hard, but very important to watch this film.

I remember the first time I heard some white dude trying to justify the pro-life agenda by saying more black people die through abortions than anything else. It’s like the weird baby version of the black on black violence argument. I swear the first time I heard it, I thought “oh because black women probably have a harder time accessing legal abortions, so they die while trying to perform illegal abortions.” Then I found out what it really meant. Wow, how incredibly dumb. God forbid women of color try to have some semblance of control over their economic and emotional lives.

That was like the first time I was faced with the whole “birth control = eugenics and genocide” argument. I was just gobsmacked....

Right? Like, it’s eugenics when I decide when to have a baby? Pretty sure eugenics was never about giving people the choice over their own bodies.

A friend of mine has an adopted brother who was born because his birth-mother was unable to obtain an abortion before the cutoff time. She tried to terminate the pregnancy herself with drugs and alcohol and it didn’t work.

The doctors say this damaged his brain.
He will never be able to live independently.
He hurts people and animals if not carefully supervised.

While I don’t like elective abortion and would prefer to prevent unwanted pregnancies rather than terminate them, I think it’s despicable that people completely ignore the many forms of suffering caused by cutting access to the procedure.

Nobody likes abortion, and everybody would rather prevent unwanted pregnancies, but unfortunately unwanted pregnancies will keep on happening until there’s some major bio-technological innovation. Every woman needs access.

I think that’s their point. They don’t like abortion, but think that cutting access leads to all kinds of suffering.

Of course there will be desperate women. I was born and raised in Mexico before abortion became legal in the capital of Mexico. There always were desperate women. I used BC but I remember how utterly terrifying was to think what would happen if my BC failed when I was in college with a scholarship and my mom could not afford helping me if I lost the scholarship. It’s a fear no woman deserves to feel. At least one of my college friends got an illegal abortion. I wish I could just transfer the feelings me and my friend felt when we were young in a country were abortion is illegal to everyone in America. I wish people could understand how terrifying it is to live with no access to abortion.

I never had to have an elective abortion but I keenly remember how comforting it was as a young woman just to know it was there.

Same, living in NY and having a planned parenthood practically next to my job was really fucking comforting. I knew where I could get birth control without my parents knowing (they’d rather believe nobody ever has sex and we are all as anatomically correct as barbie underneath our clothes) and just knowing whatever happened, I had options, was apparently an incredible feeling not everyone has!

These stats and TRAP laws are proof that these conservative nutters care nothing for the health and welfare of actual living, breathing women as compared to their superstitious ideology. That is the real evil.

I think it has become crystal clear in the latest US presidential election that the conservative movement is riddled with fundamental evil.

I truly think these people don’t think the stats are ‘real.’ Flat out don’t believe them. Which is why documentaries like this are so important. The more women tell their stories the realer it (hopefully) becomes. Even then though they’re probably so entrenched in their own ideology to accept reality.

It is so terrifying that this movie could even be made. Hats off to everyone who participated and who continue to shed light on this - but holy shit, this SHOULD NOT BE A THING. To quote John Oliver, how is THIS still a thing?!?!

And what’s even more terrifying is that if the court goes 4-4 then this inhuman law will actually pass. I can’t even contemplate that or what that will mean to all these women. Bloody hell world, you’re supposed to move forward not back.

I am so ECSTATIC that you’re covering this and that this film got made. I used to live in Tuscaloosa and escorted patients at Gloria’s clinic. She is a wonderful, wonderful lady, and Dr. Parker is a damn saint. They are really lovely people, as are their staff. Gloria gives so much back to the community, but you’d never know it because of what she does for a living. She really stuck her neck out when all the TRAP laws were going down, even when the clinic had to close. Those protesters are truly vile people. And it doesn’t help now that the “pregnancy crisis” center opened in the same complex as the clinic. They confuse and lure patients on the regular. It’s awful. But to end on a positive note, I’m so so excited! Go see this film!
