EB-5 seems like a good revenue program, except we’ve set the price of entry too low. Add a zero to the requirement, and require the proceeds to be used for something good, like Pell Grants. That’s roughly a thousand Americans going to school on one wealthy Chinese immigrant’s dime. Win-win.

Who cares if anyone in the equation cares about the American workforce? If the program were modified as I described, it would be a good program, regardless of the intentions of those involved.

“EB-5 sends a terrible message to the millions of immigrants patiently waiting their turn to enter the United States legally to be reunited with their families or for legitimate employment,” she said in a statement last year, just before the program was renewed. “It says that American citizenship is for sale, and that’s not what our country stands for.”

    Bless your heart, Senator Feinstein.

Are senators really that naive? As someone who helped their loved one get a visa, yes, America is very much for sale.

EB-5 and H1-B are not at all similar. EB-5 is an investor visa program, which many countries have similar versions of. This isn’t something particularly controversial, though some would argue that the “price of entry” is low in comparison to our European brethren.

H1-B is intended to be a visa program for skilled immigrants to temporarily come to the United States in order to fill positions we need and can not find appropriate applicants to fill. Unfortunately they’re being used by companies like Disney as a go around to labor laws and bringing in foreign nationals to work entry-level positions.

Brendan referenced Trump’s disapproval of H1-B as his launching point to talk about the use of Trump’s name in a licensing deal that attracted Chinese investors via the EB-5 program.

Trump has railed against some such programs, saying that he wants to “institute an absolute requirement to hire American workers first for every visa and immigration program” even as he acknowledges hiring temporary workers at his Mar-A-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida. However, Trump Bay Street has thus far raised $50 million through loans facilitated by EB-5.

Under the EB-5 program, foreigners who invest at least $500,000 in an American project that promises to create at least 10 jobs can receive a two-year visa.

Shut up and take our money!!

Well I mean, the above example wouldn’t work because ideally the jobs would be created in places other than the funeral industry.

Oh, there is plenty of terrorism venture capital out there that could fund $500,000 and a few jobs for a visa. All I’m saying is that someone should be asking these questions.

“This was a highly successful license deal but he is not a partner in the financing of the development,” a Trump spokeswoman told Bloomberg.

Congratulations, Mr. Drumpf, you’ve run into the limitation of selling your name to projects; you don’t always know who you’re selling it to.

With Drumpf, the licensing money is very similar to praise: he doesn’t really care where it comes from. If the Chinese offered him $10M to slap his name on a re-education camp he'd be going on about how it's the best, most luxurious place for dissidents to learn the benefits of the party through hard work.

The thing is, if a licensee does something harmful, it reflects on Trump just because he licensed his name to it.

Everyone’s panicking about him being a new Mussolini, but I think he’s America’s Silvio Berlusconi. Waiting for the inevitable exposure of his undoubtedly disgusting bunga bunga sex parties....

Either that or he’s George Bluth in the flesh.

Look at old photos of Mussolini and then watch how Drumpf sticks out his chin and you’ll see exactly why people make the comparison.

But you’re right. Plenty of similarities with the Italian short-fingered vulgarian, Berlusconi.

China didn’t like what was happening with the Baha Mar project in the Bahamas, and two years later, that project sits empty and unfinished, while the Bahamas sit on the brink of a governmental bankruptcy. So yeah, getting in bed with the Chinese government seems like a fantastic idea. Can’t wait for this to hit the fan.

Well, this is different. This is for wealthy Chinese individuals to park their money overseas outside he purview of the whims of the Chinese communist party/government. The Chinese government try to do everything to prevent money from leaving the country to no avail.

I mean, to be fair, it a tiny island nation of 325,000 people. In the case of the United States, the failure of any one of these projects will not result in some national catastrophe. I’m not sure what the comparison is, here.

They were counting on the fact that the show was familiar to some rich people in China. I can imagine the type of upstanding Chinese investor they were targeting with that music.
