Go forth, my babies — but do keep it kind.

The comments here will likely be kind and respectful. Unless you crosspost to Gawker...

(you should probably warn us when you’re going to do that so we aren’t caught off guard when suddenly start getting a pile of Kinja replies telling us how stupid and ugly we probably are.)

I’m a Bernie supporter and I can’t even comment on Gawker. I have to despise Hillary with all my being or else I get attacked. Apparently I can’t support Bernie and also think Hillary is a good option.

I’m really sorry to hear that you’ve had that experience. To my knowledge this won’t be crossposted, but regardless I hope you—and everyone else—enjoy a lively and respectful discussion tonight.

Bernie said “I don’t have a SuperPAC,” and I automatically, totally thoughtlessly, replied, “Oh, shut up.” I think I’m over the “I don’t have a SuperPAC” pillar of the Sanders campaign.

Only took them an hour and a half to get to the topic of education, but they did spend nine whole minutes on it. Thanks, guys.

Way to speak in generalities, you two. Clinton, it’s really cool the way you got the teacher’s unions to support you when none of the teachers I know support you. Way to take credit for that. You are great at politics.

Sanders, good job moving the topic to free college tuition almost instantly. You said pretty much nothing about K-12 education. Really cool.

And fuck you Anderson Cooper for going back to the old chestnut of teacher’s unions supporting bad teachers. No questions about privatization? Charter schools who are not accountable to locally elected school boards? Resource inequities? Test company profiteers?

    Nothing? Right on. Got it.

And this is how we ended up with a charter school founder as secretary of education.

I want to throw things at democrats over education, on a regular basis.

They know what they are doing when they appoint these people. It’s no accident. This is why it matters who you take money from. Big companies like Broad and Walmart profit from the privatization movement. Alice Walton just handed Clinton another check. She used to sit on their board.

This is why campaign finance reform matters.

I’ve been disappointed in Obama because he hasn’t been a good education president, and as substantial as this debate was on other issues, it wasn’t when it came to education.

Eh, they have almost identical voting records. She was pushing universal healthcare in the early 90s and one of her major campaign themes in 08 was universal prek. She falls left of Sanders on gun control

She may be overall slightly right of Sanders and unwilling to push for medicare for all, but domestically, they’re very similar. The biggest difference between them is foreign policy, but for whatever reason that seems ignored.

I may prefer Bernie on foreign policy, but I don’t think it would be smart for him to attack her on that. She might have not always made the best decisions, but she is very well versed on foreign policy and she can really spout any fact about foreign policy on the spot.

It’s hard for me to pay attention to this election cycle.

The republicans are a gross dumpster fire, my state primary is a later one, and I’ll be voting blue regardless because the Supreme Court is too important to risk losing to one of these Repub psychos.

She dodged it, and he asked it a second time. They both gave very good answers acknowledging their privilege, but it was still a poorly phrased question.

I started watching about 45 minutes late - has there been any mention of reproductive health, access to abortion, equal pay, paid family leave, *any* of that?

Somehow worried that there’s been no mention of these issues... c’mon, Anderson, we’re running out of time. Ask something about this, damnit!! Discussion of Supreme Court nominations, perhaps...?

NARAL (and probably other organizations too, but NARAL’s what I’m following) has been pushing so hard for the moderators to ask a single question about reproductive rights at a dem debate. It’s been ages since the subject’s been brought up. I didn’t catch the whole thing either, but I didn’t hear any discussion of those topics in what I did watch.

Best part so far: Anderson pausing the debate to explain the import/export bank, because he knows both people on that stage are way more knowledgable and researched than anyone in the audience. Hillary and Bernie laugh. America prospers.

Seriously, though, look at these two intelligent, responsible adults who want to help America be better.

But I just really want to know what they are going to do about the Supreme Court decided case on marriage equality for everyone. What about the very serious issue of religious liberty! Because apparently, the first amendment isn’t enough for that!
