I've waited 406 (or 94) days to join your ranks because I've been very intimidated. Now I fear it's too late.

It’s never too late. You seem to know how to count, so you’re already ahead of the game. Welcome.

I, for one, think Kristin’s attempts at math are admirable. Math is hard. Perhaps, though, this is just a thought experiment in which she posits that numbers only have meaning when we assign them one. Will it be 5? Will it be 6? Does it matter? Does anything? A thought process that truly inspires me. Logophobe, help me out here.

    We love you, KC!

Numerals are glyphs arbitrarily assigned to numeric values, and only because of a continued tradition of human usage. The characters in the string ‘Day 4', denoting one day of a sequence of days, could just as easily connote the seventh day as it could the fourth day, depending on whatever symbological system you use. What Kristin is underscoring here is the futility of human efforts to organize its existence according to its own reality (via advancements such as spoken language, writing and the number system), when in fact the symbolism we humans use to communicate is a hollow truth. Humans, in their hubris, purport to assign meanings, define categories, and create reality as a defense against the unfathomable, but the universe remains unchanged, unfazed by our attempts to contain it.

I can understand why she has trouble with math. If she’s been reading this blog (unlike me, who skips past it,) time seems to have stood still. Despite an initial rush of “Less than 100 days of this crap!” it seems as if I’ve entered a black hole, not unlike the last “2 minutes” of a football game that can drag on for hours.

    So I get it.

Not for nuthin, but: By turning in today’s installment so late, this 500DoK entry is likely to be the top Gawker story for the rest of the weekend. Besides the obvious pleasure derived from knowing how many readers will be seething about this by Monday morning, I gotta wonder if it was intentional?

You know, I had a similar thought: exactly how many people will be pissed off to find Kristin’s face at the top of the feed this morning? Seriously, you couldn’t cut through the lulz with a chainsaw. Lol

Jeez, had to reset Firefox so I can star stuff again. Hmm.

Oh well, turns out I was wrong anyway (I should have at least remembered the SNL report) so thanks everybody for not tearing me & my mom a new one.

Eh, counting down from ten is difficult. It can break a man. In his final years, Dick Clark was so unnerved by it that he shook violently and slurred his speech even attempting to do it...
