With the death of Millihelen (RIP, good site), I’m opening up this thread to anyone who has any new beauty discoveries, suggestions, questions, etc.

I’m going to do an air perm on my hair in a couple of weeks, myself, something I haven’t done in about 20 years, so wish me the best. I’m doing it to add some body and even out the weird curls I sometimes get (I’m about a 2A).

So, what’s up, what’s new, what worked, what didn’t?

Good luck! As a short sighted glasses wearer I’m pretty impressed with my recent eyeliner skills. For how close I have to get to the mirror, my swipe and flick game is at a point I almost don’t need the mirror at all! Bragging aside, I’d love to learn how to do eyebrows. Mine are really dark, but I’m pretty pale so I worry how they’d look with the extra spackle.

YES! SNS Beauty thread! I got the Ofra liquid lipstick in Laguna Beach, and I like the formula. It’s not my holy grail long wear (still looking!) but it’s darn good.

I also got a sample set (1 oz each) of tobacco/smoke inspired scents (surrendertochance.com) including:

      • AbdesSalaam Attar Tabacco
      • Comme des Garcons Series 1 Leaves: Tea
      • Anya’s Garden White Smoke
      • Demeter Pipe Tobacco
      • Eau d’Italie Bois d’Ombrie
      • Escentric Molecules Escentric 01
      • Illuminum Wild Tobacco
      • L’Artisan Fleur de Narcisse
      • Montale Oud Cuir d’Arabie

Does anyone have any good movie recommendations? I’m a cinephile (and a film major) and I feel like I have seen every single movie worth watching, even though I know I haven’t. The only genre I don’t like is horror movies. Thrillers I’m fine with, but any horror movies except for the classics just make me feel icky. I will even settle for a mediocre movie.

Have you seen Brooklyn? It’s not your typical movie but I really enjoyed it. The cinematography and costuming were excellent and every actor was just perfect in their role. Soairise (sp?) Ronan in particular was excellent. In other movies with Domnhall Gleeson: I loved Ex Machina.

If you haven’t already seen it, I highly recommend Silences of the Palace. It’s just beautiful. There are some pretty upsetting themes (rape, slavery, etc.) but it’s an incredible film.

Hey Jezzies, whatcha drinking? I’m having a Krakow Kitty. I refuse to refer to a drink this delicious as a Moscow Mule, being a Pole and all, so Krakow Kitty it is! I finished all of the work for my class, and got 399.31 out of 400 points. Professor is rounding it up to 100%, not that it matters, because an A is an A. He showed a graph of the class averages and I was the only A, so I destroyed the learning curve and turned it into a flat line. Sorry/not sorry. I celebrated by using some of my giftmas money and went out and bought a new smart TV with built-in Roku. The picture is magnificent and it has all kinds of weird channels to go along with the many strange channels Direct TV offers. I’ve been watching one hell of a lot of Kath and Kim (the original, of course), because that show is amazing and I haven’t seen it in years.

Cindymoo is working a 3-3 so it’s just you, me and the kitties this evening. I’m caring for my parents’ cats as well, since they are on some weird murder mystery weekend for my mom’s birthday. My dad was disappointed he didn’t get cast as a woman, because he was really looking forward to having an excuse to crossdress. Bugs Bunny is his hero, after all. I found out there was a Rolfing school out Californee way near where my cousin lives, so I think I’m going to ditch Colorado and move to the Golden State for awhile. We may even stay a few years, because I’ll be living by my cousins/best friends, my awesome aunt, and just a few hours’ drive from my brother and sister-in-law in Phoenix. So it’s all good. Plus, starting salary for a CRNA is over $180k, which has Cindymoo excited, so between the two of us, we will be living quite comfortably, especially since we aren’t having any kiddos.

And now or something completely different, here is a little ditty for anyone who loves kitties by Mike Smith, aka Bubble from Trailer Park Boys. Even if you’re not a TPB fan, you will adore this song.

I’m having vodka in grape juice and seltzer to wash down all the Motrin I took trying to, not so successfully yet, quell menstrual cramps so bad they’ve kept me in the fetal position for two days.

Here is my weekly cat update. Emily is obsessed with a wand toy I got her a week ago. She has almost severed it from the string and then she will be sad because it was the last one in the pet store. Today, while cleaning my room I disassembled her hidey box because she hasn’t hid in It for more than a month. She is all settled in, a happy cat who is obsessed with phone chargers.

Today, I have to watch a 3 hour webinar training on mind-numbing, but intricately detailed product concepts for my company and plan a way to comprise it in to a dozen 3 page articles for client consumption.

    At least I have tequila.

Sitting at the nail place waiting for my beautiful shiny cherry-red manicure to dry before meeting some friends at a bar. I feel like I’ve gotten nail obsessive lately — always planning next week’s color.

What are your favorite shades that are appropriate for conservative workplaces? I mostly stick to nudes, sheer pinks, classic red, etc., with a muted grey thrown in here and there when I’m feeling edgy. Blue glitter whenever I have a chunk of time off.

Current manicure pictured — sorry if it’s big. Show off your nails if they’re fancy right now!

    Hey Jeztones,

If you could build your ultimate dating and/or hookup site, what would it look/be like?

It seems there have to better possibilities than the yuck that it exists now - it’s just that the culural powers that be pretend HUGE portions of the population don’t even exist. or something.

The men would have to pass a feminist quiz, because I only want to hook up atm, but I also have a rule not to have sex with a guy unless he is a feminist (or at least has feminist ideals) because the only guys I regret having sex with are the ones I find out don’t respect me as a human being. And they have to make the first move, but only because I am awful at making the first move. This is an optional setting on my dating app, because I know some women like to make the first move. Oh and no Republicans. If a guy wants this vagina, he has to not think he has a say over my uterus.

Tupiniquim - white cat with hands is all of usAimée Lutkin

Hello all, hope you're having a great weekend. Today I believe it was the last time (at least in a long while and maybe forever) I visited the Magic Kingdom. I’m not even a Disney nerd, far from it, and find it problematic in many ways, but for the last 3 years Disney World has been a place we got used to going quite often, sometimes just to get ice cream. And now that we’ll be moving to Arkansas in the summer we won’t renew our passes.

It’s a weird feeling when you’re aware you’re doing something for the last time. Have you ever had that perception? That something that used to be a part of your life will not be there anymore?

Now that it looks like no more babies for me, I get this feeling every time my younger daughter finishes a stage. Like preschool will be done this year. And then I guess we just never go back to that building ever again. :/ I'm already sad about it. This only confirms my suspicions that I will be the worst empty nester of all time.

I’ve been wanting to write about this for about three weeks but I kept missing SNS so here it goes:

I have baby fever, like real bad baby fever.

About three weeks ago I had the most vivid dream about a baby girl. She was adorable and so smart. The dream was one of those time-lapse ones in which I saw her as a baby and then as a preschooler. It was amazing and I woke up crying, not because I didn’t have her or because it scared me but because I know I’m not ready yet, my relationship isn’t there yet and that there would be no way in hell I could afford a kid right now.

The awesome side to all of this is that I told my boyfriend about the dream and he wasn’t freaked or anything, he just said it was something beautiful to think about and that he agrees that we’re not ready.

So I dunno, have any of you jezzies felt this before?

I never wanted kids growing up. I ended up with two, due to BC failures. My second was born when I was 40, and about a year after that, I went through a spell of baby fever. I recognized that it was probably pre-menopausal hormonal BS, and was so glad I had had a tubal ligation.

Biology does weird stuff to us all the time in an effort to make us extend our genetic line.

But, it’s also possible that you either had a precognition, or you picked up on the life of you in an alternate universe. I’m a believer in a lot of weirdness.

I am going through this now in the worst possible way. My husband and I recently decided that we’d need to put off buying a house another year which puts off baby making as well. And now it’s like whenever I see a baby I get a struck with a mix of overwhelming joy and sadness because I NEED that baby in my life. Negasonic Baby Warhead would be completely feasible if only we had the space. I also cry when I see dogs though too because that is another goal we aren’t ready for. I’m just a bundle of emotions this month.

Drinking my dad’s homebrew white wine tonight, trying to decide on a movie.

I’ve been anxious all week because my little one is really behind in his speech development. Although he’s very different from his big brother (who has ASD) I have a nagging worry that we’re going to have to go through all the specialists and tests a second time and it overwhelms me. And then I feel guilty because my kids are adorable and awesome and I shouldn’t be complaining about getting them help.

So, an escapist movie is an order tonight (watched Suffragette last night and got hella weepy). Any suggestions for something fun and fluffy?
