But it won’t work. Why? Because this ambush is exactly the kind of thing Trump tells his supporters to expect from a compliant media that’s in the pocket of the political establishment, who are themselves bought and paid for by corporations and special interests. The more he’s attacked like this, the more strident his supporters become.

The media needs to stop thinking that they can bamboozle him in the same way that they’d go about bamboozling a traditional politician. But even if they do change their mentality when dealing with Trump, it’s too late, because they’ve already fucked themselves by essentially being precisely what Trump claims they are. They’ve lost all credibility against a candidate whose entire message is built around calling them on their shit.

Example: Trump says other countries will do what he says, simply because he tells them to do it. “Oh my god, you call that a foreign policy?!” Kasich says China will stop hacking the US because he’ll tell them to stop hacking the US. “What a serious and sober statement of intent! *applause*”

Like, yes, Trump is a fucking joke. But he’s the only one who gets called out for it by the media. Everyone else on that stage gets to be just as much, if not more, of a joke, and it’s just fine. This is why people support Trump. He’s a liar, exaggerator, bloviator, etc. But the core narrative he spins, in this case about the media, is compelling, and more importantly, true.

The created him. If they really wanted to destroy him, the could give him the same amount of coverage they give Bernie and those fucking morons that support him would get bored and go back to Big Bang Theory reruns. The media is making too much money off of this idiot to shoot themselves in the foot.

It’s not about showing Trump cultists the error of their ways and trying to get them to support another candidate, it’s about emphatically showing everyone else, including those maybe possibly sorta considering Trump, “You don’t want any part of this dumpster fire.”

In other words I doubt Trump lost many voters tonight, but I guarantee he didn’t win any new ones either.

It really was a straight up assassination. It was kind of genius—a coordinated attack on all fronts—and they didn’t hold back in the slightest (except John Buzzkill “I’m not playing ball” Kasich who seemed to be rising above but in actuality used it to his advantage), but it will probably unfortunately mean that he actually will drop out of all debates in the future and play victim to spin this in his favor.

God only know what this guy is gonna do next. I was anticipating some kind of honey-slathered cage match at the Convention, but after reading your comment, he could just as well drop out of all the debates and have Trump Debates where he invites people there or something.

      In other words, we’re fucked.

The problem with this diabolical maneuvre was that it seemed to mainly benefit Kasich and Cruz - first of whom cannot win the GOP crown and the second of whom is unelectable. So now Kasich wins Ohio and Cruz takes Kansas. Rubio has already canceled Louisiana and Kentucky appearances to shore up Florida. It’s like Fox is doing the exact moves to guarantee none of the candidates get to 1000 delegates while Trump will emerge with slight lead over Cruz. That’s the worst case scenario for GOP in Cincinnati.

Super Off Topic: So this was kinda the first time I’ve really paid attention to Fox news — the after party bit. What the fuck kind of station is this? It’s all Bill O’Reilly. Does he talk about anybody but himself? It’s not TV; it’s not journalism. I don’t know what it is. It’s like some kind of vaudeville, lampoon-y, wheels-nearly-coming-off circus. If an alien dropped to the earth with a 200 IQ, I wouldn’t have the foggiest clue how to describe Fox News.

It’s entertainment. That’s it. An old roommate used to watch nothing but Fox news (FML) and I noticed that they actually don’t show very much news at all—it’s nearly all essentially in-person opinion pieces. It’s like a 24 hour op-ed station.

When will Fox News, Mitt Romney, Republican establishment, et al, learn that Trump voters don’t really LIKE Trump...?

    They HATE them.

Breitbart folks seem to think Trump won, whatever there was to win tonight. That was the impression I got from reading the headlines and comments just now, until I ran out of Xanax and pot brownies and had to stop.

The Reagan comparison is so of the mark. Reagan was a two-term governor of the largest state in the country, and was involved indirectly with politics for decades before that.

No, Donald Trump is not Reagan, not even in the most superficial ways. If Reagan is any of these guys, it’s probably Ted Cruz, and that’s even an extremely tenuous comparison.

One has to ask, how did the Republican party come up with such a poor showing —- this sorry array is all they can dredge up to run for president? There’s no real achievement or stature to speak of among them; no thoughtful writing on conservative issues; not one has earned any grudging respect from opponents. They’re either intensely personally repellent (Cruz), chronic underperformers (Kasich); immature and somehow spineless (Rubio), flat-out mental (Trump); shamelessly unqualified (Fiorina); gogglingly nutty (Carson), and so on and on. Is this a reflection of the hijacking of conservatism by its lunatic fringe of evolution deniers, religious fanatics, heartless plutocrats et al,making the party so radioactive that it can’t summon a single quality candidate? What would Eisenhower have said about this array of clowns? As usual, I can always find the origin of this collapse in Reagan’s elevation and validation of the meanest-spirited impulses in the conservative psyche. The talk show bullies and their disingenuous courtship of bigots; the amiable tolerance for disgusting zanies like Ann Coulter. The damage has been cumulative and now we see the outcome. Although I relish the Republicans cannibalizing their own, this clumsy performance is really shocking. I didn’t think they could drop any lower in my estimation, but now they have.

Whenever some bizarre political trend or outcome like this occurs, i always attribute it to Reagan. It’s all Reagan’s fault! He’s is the original tumor that has gradually metastasized throughout politics and popular culture.
