Kim’s dangerous, but he’s no fool. As a spoiled cruel little dictator he has nothing to gain by inviting down the apocalypse. I reserve my deepest fears for fundamentalist young men of any stripe.

I don’t think Kim thinks as far ahead as “consequences”.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has ordered his country’s nuclear arsenal to be ready for pre-emptive use “at any time,”

In an under-reported continuation, Kim added, “Except when Blacklist is on. I like that show and I don’t want to be interrupted by a nucular missile or a typhoon. So, no typhoons either. Nothing should happen during the James Spader Show. Nothing, understood? Just everybody stand still. Nobody move. Not one toilet time for one hour. It is not asking a lot. Now, back to jai alai.”

For some reason I see him repeatedly referring to it as the James Spider Show.

“We must always be ready to fire our nuclear warheads at any time,”

This being the point of having a nuclear arsenal; yes, yes we must.

Yeah, this is a non-story unless Obama has announced that we’re standing down our own missiles.

“But citizens in its capital, Pyongyang, interviewed by The Associated Press said Thursday they believe their country can fight off any sanctions.”

Pretty sure they have to say that sort of crap or else be trucked off to a work camp. Also, I see you there, generation of malnourished, short adults...

Yes, the citizens in Pyongyang (and the rest of North Korea for that matter) do kind of have to say that sort of thing lest they be shipped off to a labor camp, but for the most part they also believe it. All media and information in North Korea is heavily controlled by the state. Thanks to heavy doses of propaganda have very little clue how thoroughly despotic and tyrannical their government actually is. I mean they have to have at least some notion of the tyranny they live under I assume, but as far as they are aware the rest of the world - especially America - is much worse

Kim’s statement seems pretty logical to me that it’s ready to use any time.

It sort of defeats the purpose of having a nuclear arsenal if it’s only ready to use some of the time.

So listen United States, we have a nuclear arsenal but we take it off line on Wednesdays and Sundays.

If you could avoid attacking us those days that would be great.

They (N. Korea) really don’t have or care about a real strategy or end-game, do they?
