MSNBC made the decision last year that they needed to compete with Fox. The lower rungs were told that they were going to seek more “moderate” programming, but the upper rungs were already planning a Trumpalooza. I hope they fall on their face (except for Maddow, long live Maddow.) There’s already a glut of white, rightwing programming.

Here’s the thing, though. It’s easy to blame corporate media and the henchmen they hire, but the larger fault lies with the progressive audience. Although large in number, we don’t tune in, we don’t provide the kind of ratings that create #1 stations. Hell, even with Sanders “revolution” we’re not showing up to vote. This season’s primaries and caucuses prove us to be apathetic when it comes to action. Meanwhile, Trump is energizing his base in record-breaking ways. The so-called “lost” voters of South Carolina came out in droves to vote for him.

If Democrats want a left-leaning station; if they want shows like MHP’s, then they’re going to have to get off their collective duff and DO rather than just talk.

I agree, however I feel corporate media is somewhat to blame because who wants to tune into station that is 90% coverage of purposefully incendiary programming and like 10% coverage of topical issues by rational and intelligent people?

I feel like she could have had a fan base that was 10x bigger and she still would have gotten stuffed for something more flashy and “exciting”. It almost feels like they’re happier pissing me off and hoping I tune in to see it rather than speaking to issues that interest me.

Yeah exactly TV news is like so 90's. Aside from Maddow and being trapped in waiting rooms I don’t watch it and neither do any of my peers. The people I do know who watch it are boomer aged and/or republican. It’s a dying medium of news. Like newspapers oldsters and conservatives are the only ones keeping it alive. The last time I touched a newspaper is when some guy put one down on a table over my phone at the car mechanics waiting room.

I do know and read a lot of young liberals who complain about TV news being too conservative but I don’t know any that actually watch aside from when they are a captive audience.

Well in NBC’s defense, I don’t think there has been enough coverage on this election. Who’s even running? I wouldn’t know. I mean, an analysis of a poignant and provocative music video? Nah, give me more Trump.

She’s been catching a lot of heat for being “ungrateful”, which is patently absurd. Defending your work, autonomy and reputation is hard, especially when it seems you’re being let down when you’ve been trying to reach out for support for a while.

I imagine this was not an easy thing for her to walk away from.

“Ungrateful?” Oh fuck no. That *immediately* reads as racist and possibly sexist as well. I need that “flames coming out of my face” gif.

So, MSNBC isn’t this liberal bastion of everything that is great about being a Democrat? Shocked face. Aside from Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow, they’re just like every other cable news network. Fuck ‘em.

I’m sure if you asked most of their remaining staff, they’d tell you MSNBC is totally liberal because liberals are the real racists.

Hayes and Maddow are the only ones left who actually have interesting shows. They cover things that aren’t just a regurgitation of the news. MSNBC was stupid for letting/forcing MHP to go.

Wait...WUT? The MHP Show was having a discussion about the political & sociological messaging in Beyoncé’s Formation—something that was a very hot topic in the news after her appearance at the Super Bowl. And MSNBC decided that is was appropriate and/or newsworthy for “footage of Jeb Bush and Chris Christie rallies in New Hampshire [to] appear in a box” during this segment.

What is so BREAKING about a candidate having a weekend morning event that merits a live video sidebar box, but not BREAKING enough to merit audio? What the everliving fuck. Team MHP, 100%.

That discussion (as stated above) was the Saturday before the Super Bowl. There was no such controversy at the time so that point is mute.

Also the Times article cited above states that ratings in her slot (weekend daytime) has been up in 2016 since they’ve started doing nonstop election coverage. If you want to be mad about MHP being essentially fired, blame fellow progressives for not watching her show.

I noticed the past few weekends she hadn’t been on and I was wondering what happened. That answers my questions.

But what the hell is going on at MSNBC? Are they trying to take over Fox news? I just don’t know.

Good for her! I hope someone picks it up and the kerfuffle causes her ratings to soar. We can get campaign coverage any and everywhere and hardly any of it is substantive - much like most of the candidates.

What is unbelievable is that people get all offended by Beyonce’s video and everyone is cool with Trump. They even want to see more of him. Even liberals think he’s funny. The video is a very well done music video with some references to a social movement. Trump is a fucking disgrace and if anchors lose their jobs it should be over covering the shit that Trump vomits all over his racist followers.

I am also very surprised by the amount of racist trolls in the grays. I mean I know that they like coming here, especially on the weekends but I still wonder who the hell is so petty and insignificant that has to spend their weekends trolling Jezebel? They are pathetic.

They really are stupid for coming here. Jezebel commenters usually can spot the trolls and tend to ignore them. Or make fun of them for being trolls. They would have a much better time on YouTube.

Expect more of this whitewashing of television and less diversity, especially if a Republican wins. (Don’t want to say who because I’m trying to stay positive)

I don’t think it’s whitewashing; everything isn’t a racist plot against African Americans — sometimes there are more important things going on.

I wasn’t saying it was about African-Americans. I was talking more about diversity. But you go ahead and project your narrowminded opinions on anyone who doesn’t fit into your “big world” narrative. And if you care so much about important things, then don’t waste your energy in the comment sections of “smaller” issues.

Ugh I’m appalled at the commenters over at Gawker. What a repugnant group of bottom feeding singleminded bafoons. I’ve never seen a group of people so spiteful. They’re called her unhinged and crazy?

She’s woke. She’s far from unhinged or crazy. She’s intelligent and she’s a grown woman who was childishly shut out of her platform to make way for campaign coverage we don’t need. Her show was one of the only shows I watched on he network. Now I’m not watching MSNBC at all ever again. There is literally no point for me. I think that Rachel Maddow is the shit but even she can’t bring me to lend the network one more view. :(

Publicly airing private grievances is unprofessional, period. I don’t know if she’s crazy, but if she expected to keep her job after eviscerating her boss in public she’s either crazy or she has a very low level of emotional intelligence. I’m sure Rachel Maddow would rather be doing different things, too, but she’s playing ball with a management team who has been told in no uncertain terms that if they don’t turn around their ratings this year they’re all fired.

If MHP has a problem with for-profit media there’s always NPR or YouTube. But if expects to be paid by a public company she has to do what management tells her, same as every other employee. Or maybe she would accept payment entirely in CMCSA stock options rather than cash?
