FUCK YEAH - I AM DOWN!

This looks/sounds amazing, and I’m thrilled to know it was created by a woman, and that the conductor will be a woman as well. Bravissima!

Kaija Saariahois one of my inspirations! (And not really because she’s a woman, though that’s cool too).

Waiting for the MRA’s to come and spout off about how this is sexist/evil/racist/misandry/—— blah blah blah fill in the blank, just like they do whenever someone mentions Hillary’s candidacy.

      More prominent than Bayreuth?

Yes! I really believe Bayreuth is a backwater, despite (because of?) all the attention it gets, that will always be 99% about Wagner and Wagner alone. I think in terms of name recognition, Saltzburg is right there with it.

I was simultaneously blown away and yet crushingly unsurprised that it had been that long since the Met had staged an opera by a female composer. SO EXCITED to see it though!

For those of us who do not live near New York, there’s an actually not terrible filmed version from Sellars.

Also Meet the Composer did a great segment on Saariaho:

For Coloradans who are interested in this, “L’Amour de loin” is being performed in Aspen this summer, too. Except it’s only semi-staged, so it won’t be a giant production like it will be at the Met.
