I heard a new Weezer song the other day, and it’s about girls. Rivers, you’re 40. Stop.

C’mon Maddie, I’m a big boy and can manage two contrary emotions at once. Creed was a shitty band. I wish Scott Stapp the best in dealing with his addiction and mental illness.

    Still easy.

Safe space confession: I owned Human Clay.

It sold 11.5 million copies in the U.S. and over 20 million worldwide, so I know I’m not the only one reading this story with a Creed CD collecting dust somewhere in my dad’s basement.

This is why I get icky feelings when we make fun of celebrities continuously and ruthlessly, which I’m guilty of myself - I mean I’ve definitely made fun of him. But they’re all real people and just as complex as any non-famous person, and we only know about their lives whatever they choose to reveal (or I guess what can be spied/leaked to us as well). I mean not every celebrity who says off the wall things is suffering from a mental illness, but people are complicated and hypocritical and sometimes ignorant, and they get angry and lash out or say dumb shit in the moment. All of our lives would look terrible if put under a microscope. I’m glad he got help and that he’s in a good marriage where he can get the support he neeeds.

I’ve never really heard anything about this guy as a person. I’ve only heard people say his music sucks, with no comment on his problems or personality. I think that’s alright.

Music can suck while the human beings behind it are still human and deserving of sympathy and compassion.

Unless we’re talking about new Coldplay, which is just unforgivable.

Not even with Coldplay, what with Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow remaining on friendly terms and sharing custody of their children so those children get to live life without being torn and abused during/after their parents’ divorce. I can’t hate on parents who care for their kids in such responsible fashion.

      I was being sarcastic.

That said I do not like new Coldplay and think it is actually morally bad and weirdly exoticising, but I don’t hate on Martin or his wife. But because their good parents in this one way we’re aware of does not mean they produce good art.

“that the CIA was doing mind control experiments on him and that President Obama was being held captive by the Secret Service.”

Are delusions typically a symptom of bipolar?

It’s typical of psychosis from Adderall abuse. You don't even have to have an underlying mental condition, if you take Adderall and you don't need it you can end up with psychosis

Manic episodes can include psychotic symptoms. And stimulants can also exacerbate psychosis.

When I think of Creed, I think of when my sister and I would drive and sing “With legs wide open” and die laughing.

That sounds like something my sister and I would do tomorrow. We're 35 and 39 but maturity wise (especially when in the same room) were both like 12.

Addicts and alcoholics with a dual diagnosis are difficult to treat. Sometimes by choice, since they know that many rehabs will not accept them once they reveal that they are bipolar, have an eating disorder, etc. That way they can play “well I tried to get help but when I told them the truth they wouldn’t help me” card.

So...are you saying people claim dual diagnosis so they have an “excuse” for not getting treatment?

I’m saying some people try to use their dual diagnosis to avoid rehab. My sister did that at one point. I doubt she was the only one to do it. But it is a problem with many rehab facilities, more need to be equipped to handle a dual diagnosis patient.
