Bill Clinton gave us the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 - the reason so many black men are in prison. For those of you who are too young to remember, the Clintons were sold as a package deal, “two presidents for the price of one.” They had and still have, a gift for convincing people in minority communities that they are on their side, while enacting policies that prove to be the opposite. NAFTA and welfare reform didn’t do much (anything) to help people of color. Hillary is what she’s always been - an opportunist who will continually reinvent herself to achieve money and power.

The crime bill didn’t fall out of the sky like a Clinton-stamped anvil onto black American. This was a bill that received significant support from African American elected officials and community leaders because crime was fucking awful and something needed to be done. Bernie fucking Sanders voted for this bill.

Plus, the prison population increased at the same percentage rate both before and after the Clinton presidency. Putting all the blame on him/them is just crap logic.

No. Only Hilary is running. This argument is sexist and/or discriminatory. It’s also quite a long time ago, and opinions, including Hillary’s have changed.

I hope you remember this when people start discussing Bernie’s stance on immigration.

The sentiment is fine. White supremacy and white privilege obviously exist. However, being lectured about privilege by a millionaire, white woman who has a decent chance at being the most powerful person on earth is FUCKING INSANE. This election is driving me crazy.

a white guy on my fb today posted this gem today- “Not only do Black Lives Matter...ALL lives matter. I’m sick and tired of these racist fucks I don’t have a racist bone is my body. Stop trying to divide our awesome country. If you really think that an individual should be categorized by color or their skin type then go hop in a time machine and stay the fuck out of 2016"

and this beautiful statement in the comments “I can honestly say that if I was born a black man my views would be the same”

Yes, and I’m betting that if this person had been born black, his opinion would most certainly NOT be the same.

It’s because when white people think of “pride” and “heritage”, they run into the unfortunate reality of history. White pride and white lives were always the standard. It perturbs many of them to admit that black lives didn’t matter in that white and proud America.

Why does every article on Jezebel about Clinton have a negative slant? Are they just openly endorsing a candidate or what?

Not openly, that’s the problem. Openly would be better; I’m genuinely surprised when there is the occasional one free of bias or digs at her

Jez writers are in their 20's. Not a lot of experience or wisdom when it comes to how general elections actually play out.

      They should google George McGovern...

Anyone who believes in white privilege already knows this. Anyone who doesn’t isn’t going to listen to HRC about it.

THAT SAID..... we still need high profile people talking about this. It just feels like shouting into the void sometimes without doing anything (and I don’t know what “doing” would even entail, and I don’t think anyone else does, which is probably why there is so little of it).

I dunno, I’ve been a pretty liberal person since the early 2000s, and it wasn’t until about 5 years ago that I started to understand exactly what white privilege was. I understood that minorities were discriminated against in all manner of ways, but I never thought about how whiteness conveyed “privileges.” I’ve educated myself since then, and some of that education started with hearing people mention these concepts.

I just think the horrible-ness of today’s political climate makes it impossible for anyone to learn anything from these people. Today’s Yoots are more likely to find out about race or feminist issues from pop icons, which probably scares the crap out of Olds. Agreed tho that lots of people need to learn about privilege (white, male, class) which usually comes with growing up and being open to learning.

That’s what I keep telling myself. That these people must be trolls here to confuse things. Christ. Progressives can’t be this fucking stupid.

But, then, all the articles for Clinton are pretty biased here. So, it’s quite possible progressives really are this fucking stupid.
