This is gonna be really good. I love that Wintour is allowing herself to be on camera more and more these days. Actually, it’s making her look really good: Less bitch, more boss.

PS: I almost got run over on the sidewalk by her dogs a few months ago. I was walking down the street when her townhouse door opened and two big goldendoodles (I think) ran out the door and right into me. She came out and grabbed them by the collars, then crouch-walked them into a town car waiting on the street. All without a hair out of place, mind you.

You should have said - while waiting for her to reach the dogs - “By all means, move at a glacial pace. You know how much that thrills me.”

I don’t think I’ll ever “get around” to watching the doc, but I do get really excited about the Red Carpet at the event.

I’m very ambivalent about this year’s “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.”. I’m afraid it might be a guided tour through Lady Gaga’s closet.

One day the robots will wear our skins as ironic furs, and others will throw fake motor oil all over them in protest.

God it is so weird to watch this. Working at a respected art museum with no where near the available funds...I’m extremely interested in what the cost/benefit works out as for the museum, and whether or not they’re then obligated to spend the proceeds exclusively on the Costume Institute and their exhibitions. Somehow I expect that very few museum employees, even within the curatorial department, are actually invited to this event.

The Met Gala is sort of a two-headed beast, I think. There’s the gala itself, which is entirely the Costume Institute’s baby, and they are in charge of all of the fundraising for the event and have control over it and it stands as their own largest fundraising event of the year (at least, according to google).

But as the Gala is coupled with an exhibition of fashion, and as the Costume Institute itself doesn’t have that much direct exhibition space, they expand the exhibition into another department - last year’s exhibition really took over the Asian art galleries. And that’s where the interesting gray area ought to be. Because they’re in another department’s space, putting on what - from the look of the installation we see in the video alone - must be an expensive one, to say the least. To be sure, the exhibition was really well received, and very popular from its reviews, but I do wonder what sort of interaction or say the other department has. The people who they mention in the film’s trailer seem to all be Costume Institute folk.

Unless they have been asked to work I agree with you that they have probably not received an invite.

André Leon Talley set things back just a tad by shouting “China, China, China, China!” at celebrities he interviewed

omg I think Donald Trump might secretly be André Leon Talley.

Appropos of nothing, is that her real hair? It’s so thick and luxurious looking at her age while I may have to start doing the TrumpoverTM any day now.

Some people are blessed with super thick hair - some people are blessed with amazing access to very realistic wigs and hair pieces.

Yes, please! I was surprised at how much I enjoyed The September Issue (I love fashion but the elitism makes me die inside a bit) but upon further reflection I can chalk this up to Grace being heavily featured.

Grace > Anna any damn day.

I realize that a significant part of the appeal to the Vogue docs is hate-watching, but good God, Anna Wintour is one of the most loathsome human beings on the planet.

Also, I’ve seen pictures of her when she was young. Plastic surgery has turned her into an alien being.

Her look is so so so so Mean Girl that I can’t even get past it to see any of the fashion. (“What are you wearing?” “MEAN GIRL!”)
