He says he lifted the Palm Beach names and addresses from a database maintained by the county property appraiser.

Hold on, “lifted”, is this part of the hacking he is being accused of? Because almost every major property appraisal district in the country has such a database that is publically accessible and searchable by name to obtain a street address of the home they own, no hacking required. Admittedly it would be tedious to compile a list of officers and agents and then cross reference it to the appraisal district but the names of officers and agents are routinely published in the media, agency publications, phone directories and public court records and the appraisal district information again is public record and easily searchable online, I don’t see how combining the two becomes illegal.

  Law enforcement officers, prosecutors, judges, etc. in Palm Beach have the ability to redact their names/addresses from the appraiser’s public-facing records. From what I understand he took the unredacted versions of these, which the appraiser maintains but doesn’t make public, and publicized them.

As a Broward county resident who works in West Palm Beach, I honestly don’t know what to make of this story...but the police are, in no uncertain terms, incredibly racist and corrupt here.

Trump’s FL HQ are in West Palm Beach, for whatever that’s worth. I can’t go very far without hearing or seeing something amazingly backwards, despite WPB being one of the wealthiest counties in the state, if not country. I don’t even know where I’m going with this, shit just sucks and I implore everybody to vote, especially in your local elections.

  The Broward Sheriff went to federal prison and it is the largest Sheriff’s organization in the world. Hell, they own Sheriff.org. The amount of insanity that goes on there, from one time making crack in the jails to entrap black people, to banning 2 Live Crew’s music and getting shut down by the Supreme Court, there’s just an endless number of assholes there, and I can’t be boethered with grammar or syntax to explain it.

this is kind of an incorrect description of palm beach county. yes, palm beach island is where rich people have mansions. palm beach gardens and boca raton are also very nice. but the rest of the county is pretty solidly middle class with lots of very, very run down lower income areas

I commend Andy Cush and Gawker for this story. By its very nature and definition, corruption comes from the “state” side of the criminal justice system. Judges, prosecutors, police probation officers, contractors and prison guards and staff. (Do I really have to insert that many/most are good public servants? ) More despicable because of it is theft under the color of law, and it ruins lives—whether by a shooting or imprisonment, or by a 16 black kid with a clean record spending a year in a juvenile facility for a small amount (personal use) of marijuana, or the 18 year old that carries it on his jacket forever. Perhaps journalism isn’t dead. Ask a public defender. If you can peel the truth from the disillusionment and cynicism of the unfortunate reality of this “Age of the Prosecutor”. If not for wealthy defendanta, Mike Nifong would still be prosecuting.

My former apartment complex formally petitioned the Post Office to have the address designation as Palm Beach Gardens, even though it was 4000 feet south of the city line, and therefore in Riviera Beach. The front office...I hesitate to say “lady,” said “A Riviera Beach address sends the wrong message.”
