It’s weird that we’re getting this news from George Takei, right? Oh, these modern times!

Here he is telling Dr. Mc Coy all about it.

As someone who lives on the island of Hawaii, where we’ve been battling Dengue since last October, I can’t believe this story is not in either of the Hawaii newspapers.

While this story is about Zika in Samoa, it is relevant to Dengue in Hawaii because many Samoans live here and have family there (like the poster above). And they are both transmissible by the same species of mosquito, Aedes.

I am also very happy for American Samoa that they are getting help directly from the CDC. We’ve had a miserable time getting help here because of politics. Governor Ige and most of the state residents live on Oahu, which doesn’t have Dengue yet. Finally last week Ige (pronounced ‘ee-gay’ declared a state emergency.

My theory is he wanted to wait till after the Pro Bowl, and since Obama is here now golfing, last week was finally the time.

Damn. Damn, damn, damn! Going home in June for a reunion, and the mosquitoes already have me on the menu, for sure. Imua, Hawaii and Samoa!
