    Abigail Adams to John Adams:

“I long to hear that you have declared an independency. And, by the way, in the new code of laws which I suppose it will be necessary for you to make, I desire you would remember the ladies and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the husbands. Remember, all men would be tyrants if they could. If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation.

That your sex are naturally tyrannical is a truth so thoroughly established as to admit of no dispute; but such of you as wish to be happy willingly give up the harsh title of master for the more tender and endearing one of friend.”

Beautiful letter. I feel bad sometimes that we don’t speak as poetically anymore. That’s left for poets and musicians to play with words.

I love the wit in Shakespeare’s plays and that word play like that used to be standard.

Not everyone spoke so poetically in those days, either. Dickinson’s and Shakespeare’s words are preserved for a reason: they were better wordsmiths than others of their times. I think it’s wonderful to aspire to such beauty, but not everyone has the time, inclination or talent for it, no matter what era they live in.

I know not everyone spoke as eloquently, what I mean is that the poetic form of the language was available and used, even if only by those with the means and time to do so, which meant the wealthy set. People enjoyed and used if capable, the extensive play on words.

You couldn’t use this kind of poetic speech now, the language has evolved past it. It’s okay for poetry and spoken/lyrical art, but impractical for use in any other means. Use it with regular folk and you’d probably end up in a psychiatric ward.

Homer Simpson is my forever love. He has some good love quotes (although you can’t argue with telling someone their butt won’t quit!).

Because there is more Homer in us than Shakespeare. He is flawed but ultimately good natured. He also loved Marge deep and truer than any other romantic couple in any book in history. The great romantic authors had nothing on that sweet yellow oaf.

One of the best slasher films ever to come out of the 1980s. Criminally underrated.

My boyfriend of ten years just broke up with me, and during a very tough time, when you'd think he'd want us to be there for each other. He was an extension of myself, every day revolved around him, and now I just feel so fucking lost. It is a literal death that I need to fucking mourn.

Homer just knows how to say so much in such plain honest words, while being very, very drunk. You don’t need poetics when you truly mean it.

To Homer Simpson, the most loving husband of our time!

And to Marge Simpson, one of the greatest women of ALL time!
