Hey Jezzies, Whatcha drinking? Haven’t decided for myself yet, so it’s just Strawberry Fruit 2o for me. I’ve had an on and off fever, but what’s new. I’m bummed because I was supposed to go out with Cindymoo, my BIL and SIL for dinner, but I have this fever and they’re bringing the baby, and I can’t risk getting her ill. So instead I’m at home sulking. I did make some kickass sriracha hummus though! Pro-tip: always remove the skins. The texture is much better without the skins on the chickpeas.

Things are winding down in my class. I had a bunch of stuff to turn in and finished all of the actual work for my project, so now all I have to do is finish writing my paper and turn it in. It’s due in a week or so. I wish we’d have spent more time on entertainment from the 30s and 40s, because that was some cool stuff there with speakeasies, and then the rise of Vegas in the 50s, but what can ya do?

Is anyone doing anything special for VD Day? I got Cindymoo a fitbit, because she wanted one, and gave it to her a few weeks ago. She “adopted” a sloth for me from the World Wildlife Fund, which means that she made a huge donation that goes towards preservation of their habitat, and they sent me a giant stuff bradypus sloth. I named him Burgess and he likes whisky and Trailer Park Boys marathons. He also likes to play Super Mario Maker with me and create levels. Anyone else playing that game? It is seriously the bee’s knees.

And now for something completely different, another selection from Mindymoo’s Mixtape. It’s a song by The Mountain Goats, a fantastic indie band that I’ve got the pleasure of going to see in April in Cleveland. I am completely ecstatic about it.

I love hummus but have never removed the skins on the chickpeas. Is it time consuming as I imagine?

As you can see, we’re getting frozen here in NYC. Serious “stay home and cover all your skin” weather. How are all you NYC-area Jezzies keeping warm? I can never seal off my air conditioners properly, so my apartment is pretty drafty — but I’ve got a down blanket, wool socks, mini hot dogs, and Malbec. :)

Also — thanks for all the support when I posted about my high school reunion last week. I had a pretty good time! There was some super awkward stuff, as usual, but also some nice people, a tipsy “remember-when” tour of the school building, and a wonderful heart to heart with my first real boyfriend (also tipsy... ok let’s be real, super drunk). I felt good about where I am in life, despite all the marrieds. Cheers!

PS — I have a lot of feelings about Justice Scalia, but I’m sure RBG is really sad tonight. Despite their differences, they were famously close friends.

    Hey, belles and beaux!

Today is the spring clean out (it’s only 4:06 p.m. in California):

What is the most amazing thing that has ever happened to you when you threw your old stuff away?

In my case, last time, I was evicted from my apartment (through no fault of my own), and went into immense panic: after one month, I found an apartment that was more spacious, more beautiful, better neighbours, great neighbourhood and in a pristine environmental habitat. Perfect in every way (I’m still knocking on wood).

And then I lent my Marie Kondo treatise to an upstairs neighbour, and she cleaned out. Within six months, she met someone, travelled to Europe with him, and now they have bought a house together. She may be engaged soon for the first time, and in her mid-sixties.

So, yeah: I believe the hype! And it just feels good.

So, any stories to share about cleaning out and its impacts? I’m, frankly, a little lazy at the moment and wanting to inspire myself.

I’m continuing to clean, and to release; but I will keep on checking in....

    Love you, jinni. 🌱

In honor of the conversation I had with my sister today about rather living with my parents than listen to my flatmate and her SO (who’s been here for ten days and won’t leave for two more) have sex again, who here has terrible roommate stories? (Of both the sexual and non variety)

I don’t celebrate the death of anyone. But I also can’t be expected to mourn his racist, homophobic, sexist legacy. I find myself simultaneously feeling for his family and the indomitable RBG, who considered him a close friend, and having real hope for the future of the Court.

Thoughts on the passing of Scalia?

I am literally only sad because I don’t like RBG being sad. She said he was her closest friend on the Supreme Court. The only beneficial thing he has done in my eyes is show how you can be civil and get along with someone who has differing views from you.

In my opinion, I do not believe Obama stands a snowball’s chance in hell of getting a new SC justice appointed before next January 20. This is why it’s more important than ever to vote democrat in the general - and to vote for the ACTUAL NOMINEE, whomever it is.

This is not just our lives we’re talking about. It’s the lives of our children, our nieces and nephews, and our grandchildren, both already born and those who won’t come along for 10, 20, 30 years and more.

    Please vote.

The longest it’s ever taken to appoint a new justice is 125 days. Obama has 341 before he leaves office. The Republicans will damage their credibility beyond repair if they try to block a nominee for that long.

How can anyone who isn’t a conservative actually think it is a smart decision to not vote? Actually, scratch that. My mom has usually voted conservative in the past or not voted at all but we got hit hard with the financial crisis and she will never risk that shit again (I’m so glad she has seen the light). How can anyone who isn’t rich as fuck think it’s a good idea to vote Republican or not vote at all???

Hello Jezzies. I haven’t posted on SNS for a while but I’ve a need for advice. About a year ago I was in a car accident that was determined to be my fault. I rear ended a truck, totaling my car. he had a dented bumper. No one was injured. Not so much as a bruise or a mark. We exchanged info and parted amicably.

Today I got a letter from some garbage attorney referral service saying that I am being sued by the guy I hit. I look up the case number and yep I am being sued.

He is claiming over $100K in damages, pain and suffering. Apparently he suffered testicular injury. That’s right. His peepee hurts and it’s somehow my fault.

Has anyone been sued for personal injury arising out of an automobile accident - that you KNEW was fraud? How did it play out? What should I expect?

I am so bummed. I can’t ever seem to catch a break. I am poor as fuck I don’t know how I can deal with this. Cute animal gifs are welcome too.

I am a paralegal at a firm whose biggest clients are insurance companies, and so they represent insured people against people who are making claims them. The firm prides itself on going to trial instead of settling BS claims from BS ambulance chasing attorneys, and they are usually very, very sucessful. You should be in contact with your insurance company about this. Out of curosity, what insurance company do you have?

I’m sorry you are going through this. Unfortunately, I don’t think legal aid services deal with personal injury cases, but you should check. There are legal hotlines and online legal advice sites where you can get free advice, and be directed to information about your rights in situations like this. They can also give you referrals for lawyers in your area who can offer you a free consultation. This is a scary situation, and it is best not to try to navigate it without a lawyer. Especially for an amount as big as that. I wish you all the best.

My absolute favorite is Daria and Jane. To be weird and different and okay, to be allowed to be negative, to wander aimlessly around town and go and eat shitty pizza.

Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang. The way they are fiercely loyal to each, and depicted a strong female friendship that occasionally had bumps due to men, but in no way revolved solely around discussing men.

What is really special to me is the way they are so very much each other’s “person.” It goes beyond friendship, and family doesn’t describe it either, but it is an intense bond. I love how no matter what happened in their lives, no matter how strong their romantic relationships were, no one else was ever their “person.”
