ZERO. But this will probably become one of the top campaign issues.

Oh my god. Feeling this weird thing where I am happy about a man dying because, like Spock always said “the needs of the many outweigh the big awful racist guy in the black robe who had the grace to die before Obama left office.”

So wait...will Obama now get to nominate someone new before leaving office? That would SERIOUSLY change the ball game.

Or will he be blocked/process be drawn out forever? :(

    Holy fucking shit.

First thought; this means DAPA gets to exist.

Second thought; poor Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She’s had so much death in her life and they were such good friends.

Third thought, holy shit this means Obama gets a third justice. Incredible.

As much as I disliked his rulings and disagreed with him on legal, moral, and ethical issues, he was a brilliant legal scholar and apparently a very friendly person.

So, presuming this is true and not wanting to speak ill of the dead, I’ll just post this lovely picture of him and RBG on vacation together:

      Nope, sorry.

We’re not going to start whitewashing this guy’s record the second he dies.

He was a horrible person, and only “a brilliant legal scholar” if you believe that going against the precedent and logic of your own previous rulings in subsequent ones to achieve the desired ideological result is considered “legal scholarship” in someone sitting on the highest court in the land with 300 million people’s lives in his hands.

He was a horrible person and a blight on the judiciary, and I’m glad he’s gone.

      BOOM.

      ...

      (condolences to RBG though, yes.)

Her friendship with Scalia is just one more reason to love her. I really respect people who can find common ground with people so different from themselves.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with the nomination. Likely it will keep getting pushed until time runs out, but I really really hope it doesn’t. I would love for Congress to get its act together on this one thing. It’s more important than most of the crap they waste their time on.

Thank you for being genuine. So many folks openly hate someone when they’re alive, but then suddenly are nice after they die. Fuck that. I mean, I’ll give up a “too bad about the cancer” or something...but that’s it. If I hate you when you’re alive, then I’m happy when you’re dead. Vaya con carne.

Oh fuck yes, this is wonderful.

We only advance as the terrible old people die off. And that’s not just on the Supreme Court.

(No offense to the wonderful elderly like Betty White, but they’re tragically outnumbered).

Obama gets to nominate his replacement, right? He has time?

Condolences to his family and friends, a sudden death is wrenching and painful. But we have to, at the same time, be pragmatic.

Obama still has 11 months in office. Plenty of time to nominate, have Congress pull some bullshit, nominate someone else, have Congress pull more bullshit but then see it fucking up the election.... so he should be able to get a replacement in there.

This is a real shame, God Bless him. He served his country well.

I hope that one day that many of the commenters here grow up some. You can disagree with someone and still like them or still see them as a human being. Until that time you are just small minded people who are shallow human beings.
