Bobby...I usually agree with you on most everything but you are wrong here. Dallas is awesome. Houston is shitty. It is seriously one of the ugliest large cities, its dirty, and people drive like maniacs. I know you spent some time in Texas so I have a feeling you’re biased bc you were in South Texas (right?).

On another note, you are absolutely correct about Dallas Mexican food. Large missed opportunity. It all is quite awful. On the other hand though...Dallas’ beer scene is great.

Yeah, it is kind of nuts because Dallas has some pretty good food but NO good Mexican food. It’s really confusing. Overall Houston has the better food scene though. Both cities are awful, comparing them is like comparing diarrhea and diarrhea with blood in it. Yeah, one is worse, but they are both really shitty.

Dallas isn’t great, but Houston is a thousand times worse. They should’ve made a RHOFW, honestly.

ETA that I watched the clip and I’m fully astonished by the blonde:brunette ratio. Way to buck the expectations!

San Antonio was built on a shittier and smellier river, and they decided to base their downtown around it.

      TLDR: San Antonio smells.

You do realize the RH franchise is just a basic version of Game of Thrones, yes? This broad is either Varys or Littlefinger. At least she thinks she is.

Normally when one of you ignorant, benighted bigots start slagging on Texas I am quick to jump to my homeland’s defense. But Dallas isn’t Texas so bash away Bobby. Bash away.

Also - re: Houston - damn skippy.

Houston has more, and better restaurants. Houston is more diverse than Dallas (or NYC). Dallas is just as hot as Houston in the summer time, but you can’t get to the beach in an hour.

Houstonians are friendly. Dallasites are prissy and uppity and they have no goddamn reason to be. When I was young and single and social I’d go with my friends to Dallas sometimes and we’d hit lower Greenville or Deep Elum, and everytime I was in a club I wanted to tell every sneer-faced wannabe I passed “Fuck you you’re not that cool. Fuck you you’re not that cool. FUCK YOU YOU”RE NOT THAT COOL.”

Houston has the Texas Medical Center. Dallas wanted the Texas Medical Center but fuck Dallas, Houston got it.

Fort Worth is cool. Dallas is not cool.

Dallas’ freeway designers were on acid. Houston’s street planners were on acid, but it’s way safer laying out streets while tripping than designing freeways while tripping.

    I’ll stop now. For now.

I’m always a bit confused when Houston folks pull out the “Houston is more diverse” thing, because, at least by census data, Houston and Dallas are very demographically similar. I realize there are a lot of ways to measure diversity, but by most of the studies I saw in a quick search don’t rank the cities too far apart (and NYC may be above or below Houston depending on the methodology). Further confusing the matter is the fact that in most of these studies there are several DFW area cities ranked (typically some combination of Dallas, FW, Plano, Garland, Arlington, and Irving) whereas Houston is just “Houston”. I don’t have enough information/time to say whether or not combining the DFW cities raises or lowers the ranking, but it’s an interesting side note.

So, why should Houston more diverse in any significant way? Is it more prominent in the local culture? A more international flavor due to oil and shipping?

TL;DR: I just spent way to much time looking at U.S. city demographic and diversity studies.

      We should be friends.

You don’t get to talk shit about Texas unless you’re from Texas. I worked a summer in ABQ, which was lovely, except when all my coworkers (from CT, VA, and PA mostly) asked where I was from. I’d say either Houston (born and raised) or Austin (school) and they would get this shitty condescending sneer and be like “oh, I’m sorry”. Ugh.

My Dallasite roommate talks shit about Houston ALL THE TIME. It’s so shitty. Bitch, do you know you’re from Dallas? She also shits all over any city that’s not Dallas, Austin, or NY. Bonus points if said city is generally poor and/or inhabited by black or Hispanic people.

Also, re: the med center. Yes. I’m pretty sure living near the med center (where one of the best trauma surgeons in the country works) saved my life when I got into an accident at 12.

I agree about Dallas, however, I once stayed in the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in while in Dallas for one night on a road trip. It had power shades. I never left the hotel and it was glorious. Austin is the best though.

As a Texan, I can confirm that, indeed, Dallas does suck. Also, I can’t count how many times I’ve been asked “Do you ride a horse?” when I tell people I’m from Texas. I’ll go ahead and blame Dallas for that too.

It’s also weird how sprawling the city is. You can live over an hour from downtown and you still call it Dallas.

My BIL prides himself, and justifiably, on his ability to tell if a woman is from Dallas just by looking at her. I’ve never known him to be wrong. He even did it at a bar in Paris once - didn’t just ID her as Dallas, but pegged her to Highland Park. He had witnesses.
