Accuser was in the accused’s bedroom at two in the morning. Clearly she went to his bedroom with him at two in the morning for not-sex. Apparently he didn’t complete the rape, so unless she fought him off, he apparently stopped whatever he was doing when she protested.

Two years ago, no prosecutor in the country would have charged a case like this. Unless he beat her up or something, the likelihood of a conviction is essentially zero.

My prediction is that the criminal charges will either be dismissed or pled down to a slap-on-the-wrist misdemeanor. A university disciplinary board will probably find him responsible and expel him, and then he’ll sue the school.

She said she was drunk and *brought* to his bedroom when he then locked the door. Not that she willingly went there.

Innocent before proven guilty. He deserves a trial. I don't know what happened (and neither do you). But that’s like saying “why was she in his trunk if she didn’t want to be murdered?”

Well considering his name is now forever and more associated with rape in a google search, it seems like the story behind it is relevant.

Men: Be aware that drinking to excess can cause you to lose control, attempt sexual assault, land you in jail on rape charges and ruin your life.

Exercise responsibility! Don’t put yourself in situations where you might attempt rape.

Agreed on the idea that “excessive drinking” is a shitty excuse for rape—just as it is for blaming victims of the same.

That said, I’m a very happily married man, and if I’ve had a few too many—no matter how much I love my wife and she loves me—it’s just not happening!

Men! Do not drink too much! It makes you an asshole, it makes you think you’re a hell of a lot hotter/smoother than you actually are, and it prevents your dick from doing what you want it to do!

...or, I don’t know, be responsible fucking human beings, and realize that intoxication is not an excuse to do anything (your own or another person’s)—and is, rather, a reason to protect the intoxicated person, rather than take advantage of them.

Then again, claiming manhood is easy. Living it is difficult.

Funny. I was thinking more of “with a name like that of course he’s a rapist”.

Seriously though, frats aren’t just about raping women. Mostly they just want to get them drunk enough to consent

I am having trouble understanding how drunk consent is consent. If someone wouldn't have sex with you if they were sober, don't have sex with them while they are drunk!

No wonder many of these frat boys grow up to be republicans and politicians and corporate leaders. They get their training in early.

I’m at Cornell (as a grad student, granted), but aside from the police notification that was emailed recently, this is the first I’ve heard of it. That’s pretty terrible.

I suspect it might have something to do with the police looking to keep it quiet until they have all their facts in and organized. There’s a sadly lengthy history of police departments naming a perp publicly, having it backfire horribly, and then losing a defamation or other civil suit.
