I’m loving all the academics being outed as would-be or full on rapists. It’s getting faster too, like a train building speed.

Oh please don’t mistake an admin for an actual academic.

Please don’t mistake someone thriving in the same culture in the same industry as a totally unrelated douchecanoe. And many if not most admins were actually academics beforehand who moved into administration.

Turn all the faucets on in your house and plug the drains. Be sure to turn the hose on outside too, if you’ve got one.

It’s a dude at my campus too, as well as all the other main contacts for Title IX. Some have been pushing for a woman to take over but so far that’s been ignored.

Did...did someone “accidentally” give her the last name of her rapist?!?! WOW. That is some harassment bullsh*t right there. I mean, that’s GOT to be deliberate. I would have walked right out of the room.

I hate that she felt she had to say she made the mistake of letting her guard down. None of this is on her.

Also, his lawyers (and his assface) need to learn that lack of evidence is not evidence that something is false.

Sounds like they’re applying the same standards of competence with regard to those lawyers as they are to the administrator they’re defending.

Which is, of course, also part of the wider problem.

(Although - and I hate to say this - since she’s the one who made the accusation, the burden of proof in any court proceeding is going to be on her, not him. So all his attorneys have to do is to prove that she didn’t meet her burden. They don’t have to prove his character is irreproachable with respect to the incident(s).)

    Well ain’t that some shit.

When guys are all #notallmen, this kind of thing highlights why women are often wary of men in general... it’s hard to figure out which men warrant it when those men are in all positions, shapes, and sizes, ya know?

I’m in ASCA, I’ll just say that outright. I don’t know Jason Casares, though I do know many of the past presidents.

Anyway, there’s an investigative report at the Indiana Daily Student that details a hearing where Casares was on the panel. Before the hearing, he oddly tells a victim that he is going to “break” the respondent (the accused) with his tough questions. No breaking occurred. It’s not that he didn’t get the Matlock-style confession from the respondent that felt weird to me; it was that, as a hearing board member, Casares should have been impartial. He clearly wasn’t but then...wasn’t very good at the follow through. So, it leaves me wondering: did he suck at his job? And were we all sucked in to thinking that he was awesome because he told us he was?

I’m glad she’s making a claim against not just his position but his presence in “this field in any way.” He has no business working in university administration and student conduct.

She’s already going to deal with the specter of this story for the rest of her career. The least she deserves is to have a professional life free from the trauma of encountering her assailant. I can’t imagine the horror of knowing the person who sexually assaulted you when you’d been drinking was also being treated as an expert on campus rape and alcohol. It makes me sick to my stomach and I’ve never met the guy.

Oh FFS! How many times do we have to hear about this shite? The Air Force dude in charge of a sexual assault response team who gropes women (& gets away with it!) All the cops who are supposed to protect domestic violence victims who beat their partners or tell people like my sister that they need to “behave” after being beaten black, blue & bloody. All the judges who rule in family court who abuse their own families at home. I’m tired of the foxes being in charge of the hen house.

Oh P.S. I forgot one. All those committees on women’s health that don’t have a single female member. I’m not against men, in fact some of my best friends happen to be guys (really! [|;^) but maybe there should be a lot more women in charge of the things that directly affect us.

“An internal investigation concluded that Creighton’s claims “could not be substantiated.”

That is so infuriating. How do you substantiate it? It’s not like there’s usually witnesses in these situations, and unless there’s physical injury, what can you “prove”? No wonder men like this act with impunity - they know there’s almost no way to catch them.
