Yet another stop in Obama’s grand tour of “making suggestions that will never happen because I spent, like, zero time fighting for them and am just doing this to pad out my legacy now that I’m a lame duck president.”

And Democrats are eating this shit up, naturally. They can’t get enough of it.

Well said. Obama is the king or empty promises but his kingdom is expanding exponentially as the sun sets on his final term.

Maybe he should propose free college and single payer health care while he's at it.

We do but it's very, very low and could easily be increased even a few cents to improve public roads.

“stoking the market for clean, renewable sources of energy such as wind and solar.”

So he is proposing that we waste a huge amount of capital on inefficient energy sources. If wind power was so good, the market would have already done it. All this is going to do is raise energy prices for the average American while lining up to the pockets of the “Green” energy donors. 100% chance that those who will get the subsidy will be cronies of the Washington Politician. More Corruption is exactly what we need!

If interstate road/rail systems were so good...

If the internet were so great...

If clean water were so great...

If child labor and hazerdous materiald were so bad...

Relying on the market for important long-term goals is fucking stupidity of the highest level.

It’s almost like republicans get leverage and talking points by keeping the country in the red.

It’s probably more that they have to be in opposition to democrats or they’d stop being relevant.

Which, based on it’s test performance, might very well get shot down if it has the bad fortune to encounter a 40 year old F-16 in close quarters dogfighting.

As someone who is certainly no fan of Obama and usually falls on the republican side economically, I actually kind of like this. The environment is one of the areas where I’m more liberal, and as long as the harmful, non-renewable resources continue to be cheap, people will just keep burning through them. I’m all for pushing people towards better sources of energy.

I’m with you on protecting the environment, but if you only tax domestic oil we'll just import more. So, short term it's good for the continent, but long term it does jack shit for the planet... unless the money it generates is actually used productively.

“The tax is a long time coming, for a presidential candidate who in 2008 promised that the U.S. would “ end our dependence on oil from the Middle East” in a decade.”

So if that's the goal, why not impose a 10% tariff on oil imports from the Middle East? Seems odd to tax domestic producers
