I used to watch that show, but over time I found myself wanting to punch his smug fucking face more and more with each episode.

I would give you a star for this comment, but the best I can do is $10, nothing more. I gotta make a living, man.

I used to pawn stuff when I was addicted to heroin but then I found Jesus.

Jesus said I should mug people instead.

Bad idea taking advice from Jesus, because Enrique is much better at giving career advice.

I’ve never been to a pawn shop because I don’t have a gambling problem

When I was in college, my room mate took his VCR to the pawn shop. (yes, vcr, i’m old) He didn’t have a choice because his mom was going to miss her rent, and she was an alcoholic and had almost no income.

I was too broke to help him out, but I drove him to the pawn shop, since he didn’t have gas in his car.

Jesus that sounds awful in hindsight..

A friend and I went into a pawn shop in a sketchy part of town once and they had a copy of Big Black Butt Bangers for sale. You know you’re in dire straights when you have to part with your copy of Big Black Butt Bangers!

CDOs : Collateralized Desperation Obligations. I’ll take the synthetic derivatives market. We’ll be rich, rich!

Knowing Wall Street, someone's already put together a Desperation Portfolio variant of the guns, booze and tobacco "Sin Portfolios" already out there: pawnshops, payday loan chains, casinos, MLM companies, for-profit colleges.

About 60 for an hour and about 100 laid out in bills in the room, while laying face down. Commenting for a friend.

      Oh yeah totally.

I was only asking for a friend. Not because I have young girls I’m trying to sell locked in my basement.

Louis Winthorpe III: Fifty bucks? No, no, no. This is a Rouchefoucauld. The thinnest water-resistant watch in the world. Singularly unique, sculptured in design, hand-crafted in Switzerland, and water resistant to three atmospheres. This is *the* sports watch of the ‘80s. Six thousand, nine hundred and fifty five dollars retail!
    Pawnbroker: You got a receipt?
Louis Winthorpe III: Look, it tells time simultaneously in Monte Carlo, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Rome, and Gstaad.
Pawnbroker: In Philadelphia, it’s worth 50 bucks.
Louis Winthorpe III: Just give me the money.

Louis Winthorpe III: How much for the gun?

That movie just becomes more relevant with every passing decade. We even have real life versions of the Duke brothers wreaking havoc.

Pawn shops make the subprime mortgage business look like a have of standardized fairness.

And just like many subprime mortgage shops, you would be shocked at how frequently they go under because of bad pricing & inventory management.

It only takes a few weeks of being behind the times with how much you can sell the bulk of your inventory for for many of those shops to go kerplunk.

The same was true of the blizzard of smaller subprime mortgage shops. If they had 3 or 4 loans that even the skeeviest of securitization shops wouldn’t pick up, then *poof* they were dunzo within a matter of weeks. The number of closures of those kinds of shops in late 2007 when Countrywide & other similar shops began to choke on it’s own shit is staggering.
