Is it possible that the records either being gone or hidden has more to do with protecting him? My thought is that perhaps because he is someone who would be at high risk as a target for violence in prison, maybe this is another layer of “protective custody.” Convicted criminal or no, purely from a liability standpoint, the state and the department of corrections do have a responsibility to provide basic measures to maintain the safety of inmates once they’re in the system.

I have a lot of personal feelings about this particular guy and his particular victims and how particularly disgusting I find him to be, but if I step back and look at it objectively, I can see how there might be legitimate reasons for keeping information private.

As to the actual legality of doing so, I have no idea.

Yeah, I’d be curious as to whether or not other former police get similar treatment due to them being at a high risk of assault from inmates.

His info still needs to be listed for the victims, just like any other criminal. I would also be interested to know how they decide who gets this hidden treatment.

I really really don’t understand how this protects anyone after such a highly publicized case. Like, what is their end game? Do they really think by removing this info from online will protect him?

Even if the hypothetical posted above is the reasoning, do they really think that anyone who would want to harm him doesn’t already know about him?

All this does is cast immense amounts of suspicion on the DOC and what they are actually doing with him...

They probably put him in under a fake name. He might even be in solitary. Either way he’s in for a very lonely 236 years.

Hopefully keeping him in solitary confinement with the lights on for 23 hours per day and feeding him Nutraloaf.

Technically he would be a high-risk inmate, since as a cop, he already knows the physical techniques cops and corrections officers use when handling prisoners, understands their tactics, etc.

Wouldn’t he be a target just for being a cop, though? Or do they assess each incarcerated former LEO based on arrests and current inmates? I could see it being a standard practice. I could also see it being the same racist shit, different day.

Also: Anyone else nervous that this kind of obscuring records will lead to a situation where they do actually “lose” him and have to track down which prison he’s in? “Yeah, this is Bob at DOC Central, hey, uh, can you check your roster for a Holtzclaw, Daniel? ... ... No? Okay, thanks.” *draws line through prison name, calls the next one down the list*

As long as he stays in, I don’t think losing him would matter. He’ll be there until he expires.

    Has anyone tried to FOIA?

I still think this was likely done to prevent him from receiving mail and visits from deranged fans.

I don’t know, he doesn’t seem the type to amass a following. Manson was a cult leader, this guy is just a cowardly, racist rapist.

I think jail is a notoriously horrible place in general, coupled with the fact that sex offenders and cops are usually treated pretty terribly on the inside, they think they’re doing him a solid by making it harder to figure out that he was a cop who raped women. Gee, it’s nice to see state time, energy and money going to help this guy out.

I think they’re keeping him in “protective” solitary confinement, which is known to cause serious psychological effects and is generally considered inhumane. So, really, this is a good thing.

And since his family refuses to believe he did anything wrong, I’m sure they’d sue and argue for his release if he were physically harmed in any way.

Watch him land at the prison with a black female guard who listens to The Read, reads Jezebel and watches TVOne.

It’s unbelievable they aren’t releasing this information to the victims at the very least. Holtzclaw doesn’t deserve any special accommodations because of who he is. He used his police status to commit horrendous numerous crimes; he deserves whatever happens to him.

Yeah, but whatever inmate did injure or kill him would end up getting another decade or two added to their sentence, and that really wouldn’t be fair to the inmate.

Fuck you for advocating for more violence in America’s prison system. Violence in our prisons is a real problem and the fact that people are advocating for more is disgusting.
