Can you imagine though, if because of negligence, he was able to win some kind of suit against the Department of Corrections?

(I’m not sure of the legalities but I would think if his family could prove that he was killed due to some kind of lax security they could prevail. Or worse, if he were maimed or injured with the State having to cover medical costs etc)

...but why? So he’s not attacked? I mean, is he invisible to the inmates that he’s incarcerated with?

Why is he being protected? What am I missing?

      Cops “protect their own.”

      ...And that’s a massive understatement.

I’m guessing that they they have to take measures to ensure his safety because of liability issues, and possibly because of “undue punishment” concerns. I think that all former law enforcement types get some form of extra protection.

I am so wary of police policing police that this feels very troubling to me. I don't want to go full paranoid, but it seems fishy

Eh, between the fact he’s a cop and the national notoriety of the case, this is probably warranted for his safety. I understand your concerns though

Inmates have uncensored access to the Internet? Why would this be necessary?

    Very suspicious.

I know they have an email system but I didn’t think they could access search engines. They information could however, be relayed to them by people on the outside.

I know that inmates working on appeals are usually allowed access to law books and relevant documents but now I’m wondering if they are allowed to use the internet to prepare their case.

Something that bothers me about all of the coverage of Daniel Holtzclaw is that I haven’t seen and heard enough about the gorgeous human being who brought him to justice: Jannie Ligons. I’ve endured every angle of Holtzclaw’s rage-y, deflated mug, and haven’t heard enough about the first police complaint, the first call to a TV station, the first cry, “I’ve been violated.” Let’s write and talk about Jannie Ligons and do her goodness justice, and let her face and decision to not be a victim be the face and voice of our nation. More Jannie in 2016.

    PSA:

We’re probably about to see lots of comments about potential death threats, followed by lots of comments about how that wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

This dude is obviously scum, and I’m not going to argue against hating him, but let’s not suddenly become advocates of vigilante capital punishment, okay? Can we please be better than that?

And skip the suicide suggestions, too. Those are twisted.

Sex offenders are notoriously targeted in prisons. Are their records removed from the system?

You’d think removing it entirely would violate requirements for sex offender registration - requirements that exist for the safety of the public, which is surely more important than his will ever be. Instead of giving his exact location, list him only as incarcerated. That would provide for his safety without taking the rights of the community to know. I find it unlikely they would do the same for any other inmate, regardless of how hated they are.

Sounds like he needs to be kept in round-the-clock solitary for his own good, then. That’s the current American state of the art, right?
