Back of the line, Granger. Unless you can produce fun listicles about Donald Trump, your fancy credentials won’t get you anywhere.

“A recent win for the Esquire team was February’s provocative cover of presidential candidate Donald Trump with the coverline: ‘Hater In Chief.’”

Ah yes, the Tina Brown playbook.

      1. Publish provacative cover.
      2. “Win.”
      3. Plan next provacative cover.

I will grant Fielden this: He’s created more buzz than T&C has had outside of Edgartown and Chilmark in a quarter century.

How so? I used to read it in the 90's but it’s just pap lately. It reads like a series of press releases put out by a platoon of white-blonde Barnard grads in Ralph Lauren.

Just that I’ve seen T&C covered in other media recently. Before that, I only ever saw it in the waiting rooms of foundations and the homes of my more obnoxious relatives.

By the way, I’m guessing you haven’t been to the Barnard campus in a long time.

Ah, publishing, how I love you as the industry where the boss calling you “epic” and “innovative” still sees you out on the street with your stuff in a trash bag.

A lot of EICs used to have golden parachute contracts, but not so sure how common that is now. Mind you, he was in the job long enough to see a great many Hearst colleagues shafted, so one would hope he prepared for this day...

Growing up David Granger was a second father to me. He is a very decent man who was dedicated to his job and truly did do innovative and radical work in a time of crisis for print media. Esquire magazine is ridiculous in a lot of ways but commendable in others. Granger leaves behind impossibly large shoes to fill.

Oh dear. I actually used to enjoy Town & Country, a geologic age ago, but it’s a mayo on white bread sandwich lately. There’s no editorial vision there that I can detect.
