The best car depends on who you are, where you are, and what your needs are. For me, the Ford Explorer suits me to a tee. It’s a union made American car, assembled in my backyard of Chicago.

Buy American made cars, preferably union, preferably local. Support your local economy.

Depends. If your credit is good and you have a steady income, then sometimes a new car makes sense if you can get cheap financing. Most dealerships will include free maintenance and other services if you buy new.

Or you can pay less for a used one (though last time I checked, used car prices are kind of high in my area, maybe due to demand). But then you’d have to pay more for maintenance and repairs. And it can be harder to get a good financing deal if you’re buying used.

Best driving car, hands down, is a 1982 Hyundai Pony. All other cars are garbage in comparison, IMO.

I see your 1982 Hyundai Pony and I raise you a 1982 Delorean DMC 12. Extra points because that was the year good old John Delorean was arrested for drug trafficking charges, so you know...you feel like a badass in it.

I feel like Doug at Jalopnik has done his part to showcase the importance of sustainability by driving an Aston Martin, a full-size Hummer, and importing a car from Japan. He makes saving the planet look very easy and important. Also I think any forthcoming revised CAFE standards would be wise to incorporate his feedback.

I’m sure all those miles were absolutley necessary to drive and involved a maximally efficient vehicle.

I drive a station wagon, which will be very useful when the stock market crashes and I have to live in it.
