    This makes absolutely no sense to me. OK, she is not the first politician to buy real estate to run for office. But of all of New York State, she picked the 19th?

    Now I am not 100% familiar with New York politics, but I am seeing a lot of rural land here. It doesn’t look like it sits near the New York City suburbs, it even avoids most of Albany, and the east side of the Hudson across from Albany seems somewhat rural to me (but I don’t live there so I don’t know). All traditional bastions for the Republicans. It barely went for Obama in ‘08 and ‘12 at 53% and 52% respectively, and the seat went Republican by a solid majority (63-35) in 2014.

    So either she knows what she is doing, or this isn’t about actually winning the seat.

      Chris Gibson the retiring incumbent is a moderate (in action) Republican and well liked war veteran. His challenger in the last election was Chris Hughes who as a wealthy gay facebook spouse NYC carpetbagger, never had a chance. ;-)

      Ah, but I just found out that Gibson is a supporter of term limits and is retiring for 2016. Maybe this makes more sense than I thought.

      So did she change her name in protest or some shit, or did her parents really name her Zephyr Teachout? I hope she works on name recognition because if I saw her name on a ballot, I’d skip it thinking it was a joke candidate.
