  I feel like it has to do with our collective obsession with “youth,” coupled with the fact that “young people” are constantly getting older, being replaced by “new young people” who don’t want to look like their parents. The fashion industry certainly loves this: what was “new” becomes “old,” and they cash in every time.

  I actually saw Marla Maples in her limited-run cameo role in “Will Rogers’ Follies” on Broadway (even a hit show, come year two, needs some extra curiosity /casting features to keep the house full).
  
  She had about a 90 second appearance. But, let’s face it, she’d been “acting” for years. And that acting has been her annuity ever since.
