I’m glad there will be a chance for a trial.

Just a random question does anyone know why this is felony murder? I have never seen that for this kind of incident.

That confused me too, since normally “felony murder” is used to denote causing someone’s death while in the course of committing another felony. But in Georgia, I guess it can also just be when one “unlawfully and with malice aforethought, either express or implied, causes the death of another human being.”

Huh, weird. So felony murder is just murder 1 basically?

      Thanks!

It is 2016, in the most powerful and culturally influential nation on Earth, and it’s newsworthy that this man will be on trial just because he killed somebody.

Do I know that he’s guilty of murder? No. But that’s what a trial is for. No one ought to be above the law, especially those who enforce it.

Hey, the US isn’t that influential if they can’t convince any other countries besides their little science project Liberia to go back to the grand jury system (or to abandon metric).

For real. As a parent, I couldn’t imagine that feeling of helplessness and despair.

A friend of mine died by sheer accident a couple of weeks ago. His funeral was yesterday: he was the only child of a single mum.

It was awful. Everyone was sobbing; he was only 25. His mum had to practically carried out.

I couldn’t imagine the pain and anger this family feels, that their son was purposefully and maliciously taken from them by someone who was meant to protect him.

Amazing. I was starting to worry that the whole point of grand juries was to fail to indict police officers who murder unarmed people!

      Congrats to the cop.

To be the craziest, most insane decision maker in a story that involves a naked bipolar Air Force vet repeatedly jumping off a second story balcony is no easy feat. Bravo sir.

Does Georgia have a charge of murder that’s not a felony?

Was the cop told he was bipolar? I know police negotiators who are inclined to give give snipers “the green light” if they know they are dealing with a person with bipolar. It’s horrible but it’s true. The feeling is that the person can’t be negotiated with if they’ve gone manic.

              violating oath of office

I... honestly didn’t realize this was an option.

Does this vary from state to state? You’d think a lot of these infamous officers would be subject to that charge. Or do you literally have to murder a gunless naked guy to be held responsible for failing to protect and serve?
