I have a friend who works/ed on this show. I’m “extremely proud” of her because she’s a pretty great person who doesn’t deserve to be out of work.

Sometimes, you gotta work on crap shows that are destined to be cancelled to make a living. It doesn’t change the fact that it’s a terrible show, but it’s not just the famous people up front who lose out.

Yeah, I have a friend who worked on this show as well. I used to be suuuuuper fucking snobby about tv and movies until I graduated from film school and started you know, actually working in tv and film. You don’t get to pick your work at the beginning, and even the middle of your career! Sometimes it’s a painful 10 years or 15 or more until you’re doing the work you wanted to do all along, if you’re lucky enough to get there at all.

Plus, a good TV show or movie existing is like winning the Superbowl - there are SO many factors at play, so many people who have to be doing their jobs in an amazing way, it’s tough! And now, 15 years after graduation, I am sincerely sorry for my friends whose shows get canceled (even if they’re bad) and sincerely happy for my friends who help make something amazing, and very aware that luck factors in right alongside persistence, hard work and talent.

Anyway, totally agree with your comment and it was really nice to hear. It’s easy to forget that there are hardworking people behind every show, crappy or amazing, or somewhere in between.

Well put. I love the level of maturity in your comment. People in your industry and in mine (Big Pharma) work very hard. But sometimes despite your best efforts, it all goes down the dumper. Just as in your industry, it takes so many variables all falling into place for success to occur. I think that is Luck. There are a few dicks out there that like to deny luck has anything to do with it, but I think that among intelligent people, most will admit that luck is in the mix of things that make a project successful.

Just sitting in the laundromat today, staring at this show and discussing how chaotic it was with my utterly disengaged husband. His lack of participation in itemizing the show’s problems is the reason it got cancelled; I really believe, if we’d put our heads together, we could have made it work.
