I cannot read the article because I can’t get past her hair. what happened to her hair? Is that from years of coloring and such? it looks beyond damaged.

My assumption is that it looks that way because that’s kind of the texture of gray hair? At least, that’s what my gray hairs look like. You can slap dyes on it but it still has that wiry texture.

side note, if anyone has product recommendations for making gray hairs less brittle and wiry, PLEASE POST THEM.

Either she has tight curls or kinky gray that she brushed out. I’ve seen a few photos where it’s much bigger and more wild. I think it’s her signature. So I wouldn’t be surprised if she skips conditioner and just does a really rough, hot blowdry on purpose.

I’m tempted to hit you with “oh you, ilu bb” gushing but I’m afraid you’d find a way to slap me, Margo.

Oh, man, what a shame; I’ve always liked her approach to her work, and her attitude. I’ll be curious to see what impact her departure has on the magazine.

She’ll still do some styling for them and keep her office there. I don’t think her leaving the full-time staff will have a huge impact.

I disagree; what is happening to Coddington is what happened to André Leon Talley when he went from Vogue editor-at-large to contributing editor, and that impact was very deeply felt by this reader; I let my subscription lapse after 20 solid years. That said, I am happy for Grace and excited for her newfound freedom.

Side note: anyone here who’s having a nasty crack at Grace’s appearance can fuck right off for all of the reasons.

I always enjoy her distinctive look. She stands out in every crowd and absolutely owns her style. To me, she is a paragon of fashion.

Yeah, but did it ever seem to you that they struggled with Myrtle’s characterization for a while, and then, almost arbitrarily, they were like, “So... let’s have her like... fashion, I guess? Surewhynotlunch.” And then that became her only defining characteristic?
(It bothered me. Coven bothered me.)

I’m certainly not going into retirement. I don’t want to sit around.

I can just hear her tone while she says this. Very excited to see what Grace does post-Vogue.

There appears to be a stark disconnect here between the scorn that Vogue (rightfully) receives for it’s lack of diversity and it’s promotion of unrealistic beauty standards and the way that the dipshits responsible for Vogue are idolized.

Read up a bit on Coddington and her influence on fashion over the past few decades (hint: not just at Vogue). Then let us know if you still want to refer to her as a “dipshit.” I’ll wait...

I loved her in The September Issue. The spreads she created were gorgeous, and it was interesting how even though Anna Winton snicketed around cutting pages left right and centre, all of Grace’s awesome shoots magically made it into the issue in the end. She’s a cool lady.

I’ve been tracking Vogue’s diversity efforts and will continue to do so in my Vogue Diversity Tracker. A Vogue without Grace Coddington is a much younger and less diverse Vogue.

P.S. Dear Jezebel, could I make this a monthly column on this site? Should be eye opening.

Tangent: Has anyone else noticed an uptick in trolls over the past week around here? They’re pretty clumsy, but there are a bunch of them, all with comment histories of a few hours.
