      I know you’re joking, but Obama actually won Indiana in his first term. We’ve also elected several democratic governors. Indiana is a bit of a crossroads state. You have the majority of people south of Indianapolis (with the exception of Bloomington/IU) that are basically the same as Kentucky (religious right), and then the further north it’s more of a Chicago democrat influence. Indianapolis is sort of a battle ground of rich older white conservatives on the north side, religious right rednecks on the south side, black democrats near downtown, and progressive liberal young people living in “hip” neighborhoods around the city.

      I would put more of that on Karl Rove. I read that he really wanted Libberman but was pushed into Palin by Rove, saying that he needed her to get a foothold with the base.
