I though period costumes was when they wear all white and go roller blading.

      I’m sad this wasn’t this:

(I haven’t seen the remake, so it might be cool. I just have a very special love for this Carrie.)

Yeah, one of the few constants on my facebook feed are that people who proclaim “I am so over the drama” are never over the drama.

Are there enough scifi movies out each year for that to be an official category? I mean I personally would be in favor of it, but there are some years where it seems like there just isn’t any good scifi out. Then again - most of the recent blockbusters could be counted - Hunger Games, Jurassic World, Star Wars, etc. What do we think?

Sci-fi stuff can fit into any particular broad category. There would have to be a specific category that’s more encompassing than just “Sci-Fi”.

But then people would throw hints of sci-fi’ness into movies that were otherwise going to just be basic comedy or something to try and game the system.

I wouldn’t trust regular awards committees with that sort of thing anyway. I’d like to see something like the Hugos for movies. They could cover sci-fi, fantasy, horror, YA stuff. Have awards for “Best Comedic Role” instead of “Best Comedy” since there can be funny roles in otherwise serious flicks.

Good point, I wouldn’t want horror and fantasy left out in the cold. Maybe if they just added a “genre film” category to the main awards? I just hate to see really great movies get no recognition from the big, traditional awards.

Funny to hear that coming from him, a man whose entire film career has been an attempt to shoehorn dramatic material into comedy.

Yeah, but are all decidedly comedies whether or not they are actually funny.

Doesn’t that make sense though? I mean, if he puts drama into his comedy and doesn’t like the distinctions made between the two then it would be appropriate for him to criticize the category.

Apatow's movies bore me (which is weird, because his TV shows were sooo good), but he has a point. Comedies aren't given as much credit or prestige as dramas. But I suspect that making a really good comedy is incredibly hard. So few actors are good at doing comedy with emotion. There aren't a lot of people as talented as Kristin Wiig, for example.

Reminds me of when Jethro Tull beat out Metallica for the Grammy for best metal album. Nothing like Heavy Metal Flute!

However, now that I look back on what Metallica has become...*sigh*

“I hate drama - unless it’s prominently featured in the 3rd act of a quirky comedy to ramp up the story and make you feel guilt.” - Apatow
