    Total side note. But I hate that the show became about who gossip girl was. It didn’t matter. It never mattered. It was just a way in!

    Also this sucks and I am so glad bullying was not aided by technology when I was a kid.

      Whaaaaaat. I loved who Gossip Girl was. That show was so deliciously, ridiculously over the top. I love that the Hotel Empire is a real place where you can go and sip Chuck Bass themed cocktails.

    Just a reminder that Gossip Girl was a book series before it was a TV show, and it was my favorite teen series second only to the Making Out series, which was possibly the greatest/trashiest book series ever written. That’s really what I wanted to say: where my “Making Out” peeps at??

      I dunno - the books were pretty tame, but also weirdly sexualised at the same time, although they were far better than the TV series (even with trash, the books manage to be better).

      Wasn’t Dan gay or something in the books? I barely remember, but I swear someone was gay.

    I just found out Gossip Girl was on Netflix and binge watched half the first season on Sunday. I have a question for New Yorkers. How much would have Dan’s family’s Brooklyn loft cost per month?
    It feels like there’s a big deal made for Dan and Jenny to be OH SO POOR but that loft has a view of the river + Manhattan skyline and is right next to the Brooklyn Bridge. COME ON.

      Also that shot is from the super fancy neighborhood of DUMBO not Williamsburg (also now super fancy). It’s concievable they could have bought the loft like 20 years earlier for mad cheap but otherwise ridiculous.

    There was one for my city!!!! A blogspot, anyway. I was like 18 years old and I got drunk with an older friend, and I got him in a totally vulnerable position where he admitted he knew who the Gossip Girls were. The authors for the blog were all 30-something year old men. Writing about people ages 16-25. It was like... Of course.

It was never too bad, just who was kissing who ( we were all only 16 or so) but this person or persons seemed to have reach Into all the schools in a large part of the city. In hindsight it was probably a collective of highly frustrated teachers who were done with our antics

    This is finally an appropriate time for me to share that I was actually a Gossip Girl. My college (in the sense of a subdivision of a university) had its own magazine with a gossip column, showcasing the college’s recent sexual/romantic scandals with barely-disguised puns on the participants names. It felt awesome, and revealing my identity at the end of my tenure made me a rockstar for, like, a day.

    I should also stave off the concern trolls by pointing out that there was an email address you could message if you never wanted to be featured.

    Thank god we only had the last dregs of AIM and the not-yet-integrated-with-college-facebook Facebook. Even that had too much potential, but we still tended to stick to college-ruled paper and verbal shittiness.

      Yeah same, my most bullyable years (hahaha) happened in like fledgling internet access so it was mostly only shit at school, but even that wasn't so hands on (big school). once a guy sent me really nasty MSN messages but I laughed too much to be hurt and his mum found him doing it to people anyway and handwrote them apology notes for their parents regarding her kids shittiness because this was 2005 when people still monitored their kids on the internet.
