Some years back there was a salmonella outbreak where the source had been narrowed down to onions, jalapenos, or tomatoes. I’d had a weeks-long craving for homemade guacamole and pico de gallo, so finally I went charging into the grocery store all I AM NOT AFRAID OF THE THINGS THAT PLEASE ME, bought all my shit, made my food, and promptly came down with food poisoning. It was not worth it.

meh. All the gawker media chipotle coverage is working as freed advertisement. I love chipotle but had kind of cut back.... i have had more chipotle in the last 2months than the previous year. Also as a person with GI problem, I laugh at the symptons of your so called “food poisoning” this sounds more like the result of “food eating” to me.

Wasn’t that the ChiChi’s fiasco? It happened about 15 years ago and ChiChi’s went out of business. They lost so many customers everywhere even though the e.coli outbreak happened in just 3 or 4 places. So you’d think Chipotle would learn from ChiChi’s mistake and take this a little more seriously.

Before people come down here to be like "Ew why would you eat there? Chipotle isn't even real Mexican" like it hasn't been said on literally every other article about Chipotle: I live in San Diego, am an actual Mexican and I think Chipotle is fucking DELICIOUS. I acknowledge it isn't "authentic", but if I took pause to critique and brush off all food that isn't "authentic" to the country of origin I probably wouldn't enjoy half of the delicious eats I do. COME AT ME.

Well, I love mexican sushi, and I know it is in no way like authentic sushi, so I understand that non-authentic food might be good too.

I honestly don’t know a single person IRL who has been put off of Chipotle by this whole e.coli thing. The ones in the Loop in Chicago are as busy as they’ve always been. Maybe we have a “it won’t happen to me” mentality, but like two weeks ago I went around and polled people in my office (because a Gawker article about declining sales had made me curious), and not one of them said they were less likely to eat Chipotle now than they were a year ago.

Are we just heartier here in the Midwest? I can get e.coli from any restaurant at any time. If I were afraid of e.coli I would avoid eating fresh produce and ever eating at restaurants. As it stands, I’ll continue getting my burrito bowls without worrying too much. I had a norovirus over Thanksgiving, e.coli should be a breeze.

I am a big fan of Chipotle and I found myself twice choosing not to go there recently. As in, I thought about it, wanted it and pulled back. If it was one or two cases of e coli in a week or two, I wouldn’t hesitate. But this shit (pun unintended) is too wide spread and has gone on far too long for me to take that chance. I really want a bowl now, dammit.

I have gastroparesis and throw up pretty much everything anyway within a half hour. So even if I do get salmonella and/or e. coli, I will just get a tiny bit of it. Right? RIGHT?
