I can only speak for myself, but I’m from New York City, and I’m actually a terrible person.

Honestly, I’m the kindest jackass you’ll ever meet. A tad neurotic, sure, but if I had a heart, it would certainly be in the right place.

I was waiting for Ted to narrow his eyes, give a quick sideways glimpse, and whisper behind a cupped hand "... you know, JEWS!" Seriously, those are the same terms my in-laws dish out when they're about to say something anti-Semitic.

I absolutely assumed he was dog-whistling “Jews.”

It reminded me of the scene in the The West Wing where some woman makes a comment about “New York humor” and Josh asks what she means by that. Then Toby, who’s only sitting in the meeting to keep Josh from going off the rails, says angrily, “Jews. She meant Jews” before losing it and ranting about self-righteous, right-wing, religious nutjobs. It was a good scene.

Frankly, some of what Cruz said is true. I work as a real estate attorney in Manhattan, and I have come to despise the real estate world in New York. It’s populated by a bunch of greedy, self-aggrandizing narcissists who want almost impossible shit done yesterday and are only concerned with making obscene amounts of money. Trump is a prime example. And it’s not just limited to real estate. The day I get out of the NY market completely will be a happy one indeed.

That said, I’m sick and tired of the Republicans using New York and the northeast more generally (as well as places like California) as a punching bag and yammering about how red states are somehow “more American”. Not only is the northeast the economic engine of this country, but we also subsidize many red states. Socialism in action, folks. The hypocrisy is astounding.

It’s not that New York doesn’t have bad aspects of its character. It’s to then pretend that other places don’t. I said it up thread, but a Texan is one to talk about someone else’s “values.”

That’s the hypocrisy right. Yell for free markets, entreprenuers, pro business/less regulation until it fits your narrative of immoral baby killers.

      Not in public.

They pay hookers to release the greed within.

Back across the Mississippi, it's all corn-fed morality Jesus action-figures and voting against your own interest.

I’m not usually a defender of New York - not particularly a hater, either - but I’d take New York values over Texas values any day of the week. I’m not going to sit by and just listen to some Senator from a state who fries people at a rate no other state does, a state that elected Dubya and Perry multiple times and then elected Abbott, a state basically banning abortion, etc...seriously, I’m tired of this bullshit about “New York values.” Come back to me when Texas expands Medicaid.

It’s also a special brand of bullshit considering how the GOP has been jerking off to 9/11 and our “fallen heroes” for years, benefiting off of the backs of dead New Yorkers...... but as soon as it’s politically expedient he can make up some horseshit about “New York values”. And don’t get me started on Wall Street money/Goldman Sachs. The hypocrisy is rage-inducing.

New Yorkers are tough. Toughness seems to be the value that the GOP values over all other values. The GOP hates New Yorkers because New Yorkers are what they wish to be.

I just can’t get over how marriage equality remains a political issue on the right when it is settled constitutional law on a basic, common and voluntary civil contract that has absolutely nothing to do with you if you aren’t gay.

It’s like having a political opinion on Ted Cruz’s cable bill, I mean sure, I bet he subscribes to Cinemax which it a terrible movie channel value unless you are a self-righteous dick that wants to watch softcore porn but not have the Playboy channel show up on your cable bill but come on, you have to have better things to do with your time.

Us gay people don’t even care about marriage equality anymore, we have it, it’s done, I worry about marriage as much as I do about my right to suck a giant cock. There just has to be a better use of your time than recently settled constitutional law on a basic civil contract that affects no one but the two people involved in it, anything, having a god damn political stance on the images on stamps would be a better use of your time.

I’m not sure if it’s even possible, but I fear that if a Republican makes it to the White House, they’ll try to reverse this decision. If there’s one thing they crave, it’s undoing all the good stuff enacted by Democrats. I believe this was a big issue in Kentucky as well.

As a practical matter, at least few things could be done to try to reverse Obergefell, or its effects, and these would certainly be high on any Cruz agenda with both houses of Congress under Republican control:(i) appoint Supreme Court justices who would be willing to review and overturn such a recent decision (Roberts has shown that stare decisis is in no way an impediment to advancing the conservative agenda) and (ii) try to pass the most aggressive possible version of the execrable First Amendment Defense Act, (iii) immediately overturn any executive orders Obama has issued that has prevented Federal discrimination against the LGBTQ community.

Cruz is an evil, power-hungry, hypocritical, lying, pandering, egomaniac f**k and must be kept out of the White House. At every turn it must be pointed out to his slavering Red State supporters that no matter how many camo duck hunting ads he appears is, he is no down-home Texas boy. He went to private high school, Princeton undergrad, Harvard Law and is married to a Goldman Sachs (the biggest New York Jew Bank there is) banker and took Goldman Sach money to fund his Senate campaign. He is just as much of an elitist prig as anyone else running — on either ticket -whose last name is not Bush.

Don’t forget the racism. There’s plenty of that shit here, too. These GOP candidates really should give NYC a shot. They’d probably fit in better than they expect. Hell, our contribution to their field so far is Donald Trump.

I lived in Long Island for a few months and it blew, but the same outrage and undeserved, self-righteous self-worth all of those people had also just produced what may be my favorite newspaper/magazine cover of all time, so... Can’t be mad at it, and I’m framing pissed off lady liberty and putting her in my living room
