I hardly ever ride it. They should shut down the line and move the cars onto the E, C, and A. The L doesn’t even go anywhere. For that matter, they should shut down the 4,5,6, too. If you choose to live on the east side, you can't ask the rest of the city to buy you a subway line. Just walk. I can't wait until they build the 10th Avenue subway.

The L train goes to Canarsie. It’s the only train that goes anywhere near the pier and people have to ride a bus to get to it. What exactly is going to be the replacement if there’s no L train running?

Not only that but the L train, unlike the A train, runs at a reasonable clip and when you get on at the terminal you have a train that’s about to leave in a reasonable amount of time. You can end up sitting on the A train at the terminal for the better part of an hour with no trains running whatsoever.

Rockaway Parkway is a good place to park and ride.

When I win Powerball I’m buying all the subway lines, shutting them down, and building a new one directly from my apartment to my job. And I’m the only one who’s allowed to ride it. That’s right. I’m that dick that’s gonna keep working after they win the lotto. But I’m gonna do it in style.

ETA: And it’s going to be made out of gold. Every piece of it. Except for the seats. Those will be made of diamond, with money stuffed cushions.

God forbid anyone build any new infrastructure.

They should take the opportunity to build an L express train. Or an entirely new train. It’s only been 70+ years or so since they built the last one.

It’d probably be pretty difficult to move the platforms farther apart from each other to fit two new tracks...

You’ll probably notice a bunch more trustafarian buskers playing songs from bands you probably don’t even know at bus stops.

So, in other words, the rent in Williamsburg & Bushwick will go down and the hipsters will transplant themselves elsewhere? It’s kind of worth the inconvenience.

In my experience, low rent + Brooklyn = more hipsters.

Bad news for all those Brooklyn Yankees fans. How will they get to their game’s? On the Brighside, it is a touchdown for Rangers aficionados whom despise those stripes all over Brooklyn’s soccer jerseys. Yeah I don’t know sports...

They’ll probably take the B/D or the 4 depending on where they live. Same as most of them do now. Unless Yankee Stadium has moved to Stuy Town and nobody told me.

If nothing else it’ll be less rage inducing when it keeps the hipsters from infesting Manhattan.

Great point! Except that you are reading Gawker... which is based in NYC and “the source for daily Manhattan media news and gossip.” You don’t see me complaining on the Des Moines Register’s website over stories about the corn being on fire.

The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal are also based in NYC, yet draw readers from all over the US. And I know some Manhattanites who might be rankled at being lumped in with Brooklynites.

I’m trying to decide if I should be worrying about this since I’ll be moving to Brookyln later this year... but at the same time I lack basic geographical knowledge of where anything is or goes to in NYC. I still don’t understand how the subway works when I go out there to visit, even though my boyfriend tells me every time.

Are you moving to North Brooklyn? That is - Williamsburg, Bushwick, etc.? If you are, be scared. If you’re moving to another place, you’re ok.

I nearly bought a place off the Graham Ave L stop. I dodged that bullet.

FYI, what was shut down was not the Montague R station, it was the Montague Tube —the whole tunnel underneath the East River between Manhattan and Brooklyn used by the R train.

It may sound trivial, but you’re talking about a whole effort to try to make sure that a) an underground tunnel doesn’t flood, b) doesn’t suddenly lose power with a train in the tunnel, and c) doesn’t lose the redundant systems that make it possible to evacuate if the train is stopped in the tunnel.

Dunno about you, but that’s a big difference from some cosmetic station rehabilitation.
