Full disclosure: I love both Hillary and Bernie and have been a fan of both for long before this election cycle. But this right here is why I disagree with Leslie Knope’s #1 fantasy man:

On the Today show this morning, Biden clarified the comments he made on CNN this way: “What I meant was, for the last five years, [Clinton has] been engaged in foreign policy.”

Both candidates have plans to even out income inequality. They do it slightly differently (Bernie wants a $15 minimum wage while Clinton wants it at $12, for instance), but the crux of both plans is to reestablish the middle class. It’s a priority for both, and unless there are major changes in Congressional personnel, they’ll be lucky to get halfway to their policy goals.

But Hillary’s foreign policy resume cannot be matched. I don’t think you can dismiss her foreign policy expertise as though it’s inconsequential. I think it’s a huge selling point to her candidacy.

It is a huge selling point, if you like ill-advised wars, unilateral action, and aggressive bombing campaigns.

You’re missing his point; this IS Bernie’s issue and has been for his entire career. This is an issue for Clinton, only because it’s politically expedient. She is a former WallMart board member who is bankrolled by the giant banks, and this is lip service forced on her by the left-leaning portion of her party.

“I don’t think there’s any door to open. Even if Hillary loses votes—I’ve thought this through—it’s a long way to go in the nomination.”

I still think that if he decided to go kamikaze on it at the last minute he would win for so many reasons, not the least of which is that a sizeable portion of our electorate is sufficiently shallow to elect whichever candidate is the best looking and he’s got that contest in the bag. In fact, I suspect the real reason more left-leaning folks aren’t excited to vote for either Hillary or Bernie is because she looks like a demented marionette and he looks too nebbische to be president.

But also Biden is right, about this and about most things. I’m writing him in either way.

I don’t think Biden would be a particularly good president. He seems like a great guy, but he has a pretty incredible tendency to say/do some really off color shit.

He’s sitting by the phone knowing that if the email scandal blows up, or Hilary loses Iowa and New Hampshire, then he'll get the calls from worried party leaders.

STOP FOCUSING ON THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION!

It is much more import for Dems to take the House and the Senate. It doesn’t matter if Hillary or Bernie is President, Congress with continue to obstruct them at every turn.

You know how bad the rhetoric is with a black guy in office? Now imagine it’s a woman or self-described “democratic socialist” there.

Except someone like Bernie brings out a heavy level of enthusiasm which translates to the Downvote. Senator Clinton will be disastrous for the Downvote due to the amount of enmity and ire she pulls from the right (translating into red downvotes) and the enthusiasm gap she creates on the left. In states she already has sewn up as a democrat, for instance Connecticut and New York, dems will stay home in droves, making otherwise non competitive senate and rep races suddenly competitive. Bernie pulls more independents, creates less ire in the right and creates an enthusiastic base that will bolster the downvote.

Yes but the general election is what will get people out to vote for the down ballot elections. Dems, especially the progressive wing, has a bad track record of not turning up to vote in non-presidential election cycles. So at least for 2016, get people excited about coming out to vote in the big one and reap the rewards down ballot.

Is there any democrat with less credibility on this issue than Joe Biden, though? The guy who championed the 2005 Bankruptcy bill? And has generally been a shill for corporate interests his entire career?

I’m no huge Hillary fan but there is a reason no one wanted you, Joe.

Bernie needs to court conservatives. If he just said said a couple of outrageous things about Mexicans and Muslims, he’d be a shoe in.

Man. This, along with Obama choosing not to endorse a candidate recently (which, if I was Hill, would come as a big slap in the face to me), gives me hope that Sanders might actually win this primary. I shall not lose faith.

A sitting president wouldn’t endorse a candidate before the party officially nominates one to run in the general election, so this is not news.

Not true. Previous presidents have endorsed a candidate before the nomination was officially won (including the last Democratic one, Bill Clinton, in ‘99).

I’m going to love when Joe is out of office and goes full “no bullshit” elder statesman. I expect something like Jimmy Carter, if Jimmy was more into drinking beer, rad cars, and members only jackets.

Aww, poor Uncle Joe. Someone’s still mad they didn’t get to run as the Establishment Dem that he is. lol No, but watching Senator MasterCard from Cayman-on-the-Delmarva criticize Senator Wall Street is like the pot calling the kettle a capitalist running dog.

    Joe gets it.

Hillary Clinton is a foreign policy candidate, that’s what she’s always been good at. She’s a stateswoman. I actually think secretary of state was a great role for her.

Sanders is admittedly not particularly presidential. However, he has what every good presidential candidate needs—and what Hillary lacks—a cohesive message, a plan, a vision, and one that I think can resonate with independents as well as liberals, and with the urban, suburban, and rural.

At very least, we will have an interesting election cycle.

Fun fact: the other week I stayed at a hotel in Yangon that she stayed at while SOS. According to our concierge, the hotel chef was working on a special meal and one of the grocery buyers brought dog, which is a specialty food in Myanmar and served at important events sometime. Fortunately someone had the wherewithal in the kitchen to remember it's not ok to serve westerners dog (the hotel also hosts Korean ambassadors frequently, so dog isn't unheard of on the menu) and they cut it before management found out and heads rolled. Can't imagine how Hillary would have reacted to that!
