As much as I hate the schmuck, Cruz is 100% a natural-born citizen, and any suggestions to the contrary are silly. Under US law, he acquired citizenship the moment he exited his mother’s vaginal canal, which makes him as natural-born as anyone who was born here in the USA.

What does the law say about individuals like Cruz who exit through their mothers’ anuses?

Lighten up. This is payback for all of his (and all Republican assholes’) birtherism nonsense that he (and all Republican assholes) inflicted on Obama, who was born in the United States.

      Schadenfreude. Drink it up.

Cruz is a Canadian citizen, not a natural-born American. Deport his Tim Horton’s swillin’ ass. And while we’re at it, deport Rubio and his entire family back to Cuba where they belong.

Fuck that. The last thing we need in the White House is a lazy-ass piece of shit who’s gonna take cerveza breaks every five minutes on the taxpayer’s dime. Take Cruz back or we nuke. Don’t worry, you can always pass him on to Cuba after you get tired of him (which will be immediately).

    The plot thickens!

For years, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) has been dogged by a backburner controversy about whether he is eligible to serve as President since he was born in Calgary, Alberta Canada in 1970. But since Cruz’s mother was an American citizen, the place of his birth actually is irrelevant to his eligibility.

Yet Cruz’s mother’s name appears on a Canadian government document, obtained by TPM in 2013, that lists Canadian citizens eligible to vote in 1974.

I must say, I find this highly amusing.

TPM has a new post today on their Editor’s blog, pointing out that Cruz’s campaign is blatantly lying about the list his mother is on.

“I’m just saying, in my opinion...”

Isn’t this basically Trump’s entire campaign strategy in a single phrase? I mean, congrats on it getting him this far, but bless his heart if he thinks he can parlay “I’m just saying, in my opinion” into winning the presidency.

I could never tolerate listening to him, but wasn’t “I’m only asking questions” a verbal tic of Glenn Beck? Kinda similar...

I genuinely don’t get what you’re asking or getting at? This kind of troll statement is something he has made repeatedly. He knows exactly what he’s doing.

Turnabout is fair play. So long as the Democrats aren’t doing this, I couldn’t give a single, flying fuck if the GOP does this to him.

Prince Birther, eh? Where is your god, now? Rook to A8. Checkmate.

I’m more concerned at how this episode shows that Trump’s ability to spout total bullshit and not get ruined for it is only getting stronger.

Unless or until he makes it to a general, and until this shit starts working in a general, all it continually shows me is how much the GOP has lost touch with reality. That’s it. Even within the GOP pond it shows he’s playing from weakness, as he has only raised this question as he’s slipped into second place behind Cruz in Iowa.

Why didn’t the “Cruz defense” work for Obama? I do believe that Obama was born in Hawaii but even if he wasn’t, his mom is a US Citizen. It is literally the same situation. Never understood this.

Shockingly, if you spend decades tolerating and even encouraging people who are disinclined to believe documented facts about your enemies, they will eventually start turning those tendencies against you too.

Born in a big Canada City town

First thing I tried was bury that fact in the ground

But you end up like a fool who doth protest too much

After you spent most of your life just covering up

Not born in the U.S.A., I wasn’t born in the U.S.A.

I wasn’t born in the U.S.A., not born in the U.S.A.

Ran as a GOP Preznit Candidate

Had photos with a rifle in my hand

I was living in a “foreign” land

Cause I want to lead the US Americans

The only delight that I get out of this is that according to the view of the Constitution that Cruz claims to espouse (like Scalia et al) is that of the Constitution not being a living document, but being set in stone and interpreted in the manner that the drafters would have interpreted it. Under such a strict constitutionalist view it is possible that Cruz isn’t a natural born citizen. According to Laurence Tribe: “the kind of judge Cruz says he admires and would appoint to the supreme court – an ‘originalist’ who claims to be bound by the historical meaning of the constitution’s terms at the time of their adoption – Cruz wouldn’t be eligible because the legal principles that prevailed in the 1780s and 90s required that someone be born on US soil to be a ‘natural born’ citizen.”

He added: “Even having two US parents wouldn’t suffice for a genuine originalist. And having just an American mother, as Cruz did, would clearly have been insufficient at a time that made patrilineal descent decisive.”
