I adopted a cat today from the Humane Society!!!!!

She hasn’t fully emerged fro that box since she got here, but she did let me pet her head and she ate a bit.

I am so happy, but what advice for slightly timid cats do you have for me Jezzies?

Yay! Thank you so much for adopting an adult kitty. They are so often overlooked!

As far as advice, just give her space and let her come to you. I have two very shy kitties and I’ve found that seeking to pick them up and pet them when they aren’t into it just makes them scared. If you hang out in the same space and just do your own thing, they will often get curious and come over to check you out. :) Good luck!

Two nights ago I dreamt that Michael Fassbender came to work at my school and was even in my staff room, and whenever I told people I taught with him no one knew who he was and I was devastated. Not super weird, but I was still disturbed when I woke up that people weren’t impressed that I worked with God damn Michael Fassbender.

Hey Jezzies, whatcha drinking? Lemon Ginger Kevita for me! (Thanks, Slay.douche!) I haven’t had alcohol in over a week. Still can’t get over this cough/sinus/fever garbage. I’ve become addicted to Super Mario Maker for the Wii U in the meantime. Damn, that game is cool. Making Mario levels, playing levels made by people who are clearly touched in the head, good times. I’ve also been binging on Trailer Park Boys at night when I can’t sleep, which is an unfortunate side effect of my life that is exacerbated by the nasties I’m dealing with right now. But Cindymoo is feeling better, the kitties are well, and I’ve got a lot of new material down for my return to stand-up, so just because I’ve been under the weather, that doesn’t mean I haven’t been productive. Cindymoo’s working another 12, so it’s just me, Figaro, Floyd and you fine people again this evening.

On another note, I am going to share with you a beautiful little ditty by a guy they call Frank Zappa.

Who has lottery tickets? I know it’s a HUGE chance, but it’s one you can take for just ten bucks, so what the hell...

It’s fun to daydream about what to do with half a billion dollars... I decided that after I’m done traveling and buy a house, I would make a good sized donation to my friend who runs a cat rescue, give a big chunk to the local school district since our idiot governor and her ilk managed to piss away the Rainy Day Fund, then put together some business on my side of town (like a restaurant franchise or two - bring money into the community, make jobs, not have to travel halfway across town for a decent salad)...

Anybody else playing the Fool’s Tax? Any big pipe dreams?

We bought a ticket and I’m enjoying the dream right now. My husband says we should use the money to create a curling club in Maui. My grand dream is to move to Hawaii from Minnesota, he wants to be able to continue curling. Alas, lottery winnings appear necessary for such a plan to come to fruition.

I forgot to contribute to my office pool, so I got Mr. Werner to pick up a ticket on his way home. Normally I would never buy a ticket for myself, but I hated the idea that all my coworkers might win and I’d be left out.

    Hallo.

I’m back to my normal, day-to-day life and Jez (though a limited capacity since I’m busier and—dare I say—happier at work) after two weeks abroad. The Big Trip was amahzing, and I’m already planning a big one for next year (this year). I have locations picked out, a budget set, and a schedule for planning all ready to go.

    This has me thinking:

If you could go anywhere on earth, with no budget or time constraints, what trip would you make?

    Hey Jezebellians!

Anyone have any good tales, tricks or hints for navigating/coping/thriving in a stoic conservative environment, when you’re like a total free-spirit?

(might just be the chirps of crickets and silverfish as answers, yet kinda curious if anyone out there can relate)

Head phones and a limited amount of banal small talk. I work in a super square environment and I find shirt chats in the kitchen while getting tea or water seem to be enough. I am seen as hard-working when really I just do not want to talk about investment portfolios and private elementary schools.

Is it a work or family type situation? How I deal with my conservative in laws is to say very little, drink copious amounts of wine and think about fun stuff.

Guys, big news this week with my kid. The other night I felt like poo after they had dance class, so I decided to take the kids to McDonald’s to avoid cooking and give myself a chance to just sit (that sound you hear in the distance is one of Food Babe’s neck veins exploding).

We’d been there a few minutes and my non-speaking daughter whispers to me that there’s a girl there (we are in the play area) with a Sparks uniform just like hers. Then she runs off to play. A few minutes later I hear her loudly speaking to this kid - “Hi, I’m Freja and this is my sister Annie. Do you want to play?”

WHAT. Never. Never has this ever happened in her wee little life. I wanted to stand up and cheer and tell everyone how amazing it was. But I just had to sit there and silently enjoy my best parenting moment ever. My girls played with all these kids for two solid hours just as normally as anyone else would. Right on, McDs. We will return.

    *BRAG ALERT*

I just got a promotion at work . And it came out of NOWHERE and is awesommmme. Not more money really, literally .25 cents more an hour than my other jobs combined BUT BUT BUT I am now down to one job instead of a crazy woman running around with a million part time jobs. And benefits! Yay new glasses! And paid days off! To celebrate, my boyf is taking me out, I got a pedicure, and I am drinking a G&T even though it is 4:15.

2016 started terribly. I can’t even describe how bad the situation has gotten with my boss, except to let you know that I’m pretty sure I have chronic anxiety, including a feeling of constant weight on my chest, weird GI stuff and sweaty palms at all times. It’s great. I also didn’t talk with husband for 3 days this week because of a fight we got into because of how unhappy I am at work. Luckily that mended itself when I came home to a clean house yesterday, and he made me dinner. Still, overall this year is not what I had envisioned my life being. Sigh.

Is there any way you can try to be reassigned to someone else? If not, I think you should try to find another job. I was in a similar situation for most of 2015 - absolutely miserable at work, crying in the morning as I left, constantly fraught with anxiety, suicidal ideation, etc. It worked real damage on my marriage, which is only just beginning to recover after I started a new job in August. I know how hard it is to keep work troubles from boiling over into your personal life, and it can end up that a toxic work environment ends up creating a toxic environment at home. Internet hugs from someone who was there and is coming out the other side.

Oh man have I been there with the shitty job and boss and I know the hell it can wreak on your health and home life. Sending hugs your way, and I hope things start looking up soon. I know even applying to new jobs helped me feel like I was doing something about the awful situation, even if it did take a year to finally get out.
