It’s still not enough. Why not more stringent? It’s not like any GOP candidate has a snowball’s chance at this point. And they only make the point by the utter asshole comments they've already made about this. I'm so fucking sick and tired of this myopic society on this issue.

Seeing as how background checks are only increasing, it makes good sense that the FBI will hire more examiners.

Obama and the gun control nuts are helping to sell more guns than ever before, so I applaud this move. Thanks for the efforts!

Who’s buying them, though? What good is having 15-35 guns, when all you have is two hands to fire on gun grabbers when they come a’jackbootin’.

Black Friday broke the single day record for most NICS background applications. You cannot submit for more than one background application at a time in most states and you most assuredly can’t buy more than one gun at a time, with most states requiring a “cooling off” period between gun purchases. What sort of hair-brained logic would lead a person with half a brain cell to conclude that this means guns are only being sold to fewer and fewer people?

There were more NICS background check applications in 2015 than any previous year on record. We have no way of knowing who is buying those guns; whether they are first time gun owners or 100th time gun owners, so for the gun control nut crowd to claim that guns are only being sold to the same people is completely absurd and you’re just eating it up like gospel.

More people are buying guns than ever before. Since 2008 (Obama’s first year in office) gun sales have doubled. If you really want to believe that fewer and fewer people are buying guns, then I have some ocean-front property to sell you in Arizona.

I have 3 semi automatic handguns that I inherited when my father passed. I don’t know if they are registered. (I keep them in a locked safe and are scared to go near them.)

    I support the President’s plan.

I just wanted to add a story to the conversation.

The gun problem in America seems unsolvable, and that’s really scary to me.

Before my grandfather passed away, I was in the attic rooting through his discarded books looking for possible first editions of something interesting, and in opening a trunk came across a handgun, probably from when he was in the military. I closed the trunk and said nothing - until he passed away and it came time to mention it would be among his things. And then the gun wasn’t found, and among those with whom it was discussed, no one knew anything about it. I still feel horrible about not saying something at the time, because in all likelihood one of my terrible militia-loving cousins came across it, and there’s one more unregistered gun out there in the world.

Brings a whole new meaning to, If you see something, say something.

Posting with the name “El Gigante” should be enough. If it isn't, go buy a truck.

The fact of this law not being even close to enough notwithstanding, the majority of citizens will see this as, at most, a step in the right direction, or at worst, an inconvenience. The seemingly large/vocal/fear-mongering portion of the country is a lot smaller than their incessant, Chihuahua-like barking would have the public believe. It's not just a talking point that the majority of Americans are in favor of realistic gun reform.

the government only has three days before prospective buyers can return and buy the gun without being cleared.

I always thought this was one of the most laughable parts of gun control law. It’s like if the line was too long at the BMV that day, they just give you a driver’s license without a test.

IMO, if you buy and sell that many guns in a year, you are a fucking gun dealer and you need to be complying with the law and doing background checks on the people you sell to. This is a basic, common-sense rule that won’t affect anyone’s access to guns who is legally entitled to purchase them. “Responsible” gun owners can pass background checks and therefore should have no problem with them.

I firmly believe the (smart) political rational here is to do something extremely basic and common-sense that the majority of people will think is reasonable, so that the Republican party can spend the months leading up to the election pitching a gigantic shit fit so everyone can see what self-centered, petulant children they are when it comes to guns. The GOP will show the country what most of us on the left already know about them: That even the slightest inconvenience to any one person who wants to buy guns, no matter how crazy or dangerous they are, is utterly unacceptable.

This story reminds me of the many undercover investigations of these places. It’s pretty crazy. Here’s one from the AP:

This seems like common sense stuff Obama is putting forward. I am not surprised people are already freaking out about it, though, because America.
