    There is literally no non-racist reason why this woman has to be white. “That’s what the current role is casting for” just means we “we don’t want to put people of color on tv.”

      It’s also just a stupid thing to put in a call for this type of role. If there’s anything midwesterners are good at, it’s hiding their biases and coming up with other justifications for racism. Have a casting call for all races— and THEN hire the white one!

    It really pisses my off that this happened in my city. It’s incredibly diverse here and I’m proud of that fact, it sucks that people don't want to recognize that.

    As an actress lemme say this happens alllllllllllllll the damn time. The nice ones will pull the “all ethnicities but we want you to look like JLaw” which eliminates non-white/non-thins by default.

    I once saw a casting call for a “spokesperson” for a pickle company. This person had to go around to trade shows dressed as a giant pickle and hand out free samples. They listed that every race could apply...except black people.

    Forget 40 acres and a mule: in the Land of the Free some of us can’t even get a job as a giant pickle.

      I just saw an ad for a shoe shoot for women’s “size 4-5 - only tanned white or latina - NO ASIANS OR BLACKS.”

      I thought, hm, I wear a size 4.5 shoe but I’m Asian and pale. Do they have a full stock of Asians and Blacks for this promo?

    Are you guys seriously questioning why they are asking for a specific type of person to be cast for this role? That is just absurd. If they had called for an Asian or Latina female 5’3” or shorter would you all be so vocal about it? Just because this is a local show and the casting call is through FB you think it’s ok to turn this into a race thing? Would you be questioning why they need a Caucasian female if this was for a movie role? I really wanted to keep my mouth shut but the stupidity of that question got me fired up.

    Fired up for the wrong reasons, methinks...
