Hey Jezzies, whatcha drinking this New Year’s Day? I’m too damn tired for alcohol, so it’s strawberry Fruit 2o. Sick as hell, have been up for way too many consecutive hours (other than a cat nap very early Thursday morning, I’ve basically been up since Wednesday evening) and I am still watching my Twilight Zone marathon. Too damned sick and entertained to sleep! I may be entering total delirium mode.
Anyway, what are your evening plans? Anyone else watching the marathon like this lame-o?

Ice Water! Woohoo! Livin’ la vida loca!

I’m on a Harry Potter movie marathon and I’m grimacing the whole time. It’s been a really long time since I watched the movies and I forgot how terrible they are. I should just stop and read the books. It’s be a lot more fun.

eta: I hope you feel better soon! Being sick over the holidays sucks.

Anyone want to share their NYE pics? Whether you stayed in or partied it up hard? I stayed in with my little fluffballs, but it didn’t mean I didn’t still get dressed up and fancy like!

I love everything in these photos! Especially those shoes. Shoes like that never come in a size for my giant feet. :(

My cat had the same New Year’s plans as yours.

We have the same cat! I think we’re being two-timed LOL! I love those ridiculous slippers, I have them in black and red too. I like to swan around like some old 40s Hollywood actress or Blanche Devereaux, it makes me happy. It also makes me laugh at myself a lot, which I find to be highly important.

I went for a walk on the beach this morning, let’s see how long I can keep that up.

And Mark un-greyed me on his way out, so my year is already looking mighty fine. Thanks, Mark xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

ETA: my resolution is to un-grey as much as possible to pay it forward for all the lovely people who un-greyed me all these years.

I am currently finishing some applications to go back to school in the fall to become a speech therapist! Come Monday I will be going to my old high school and community college to have my transcripts go out. I'm actually really excited to be going back.

Thank you so much! I'm ready to go back, I'm 27 and want a more solid career.

I bet you will one day, when the time is right! There's a great deal of computer science programs so you have many options.

I found an online associates to bachelors program so it's very helpful because I have to work full time while going to school.

My optimistic hope for this year is that I get a little closer to my family. It’s been 5 years since they disowned me, and the past two months one of my sisters has been visiting me. Having one sibling would be amazing.

My goal is to lose weight, i’m 20 pounds down from last year, and I hope to lose some more this year.

I’ll try to post more actively on here again, I love all of you Jezzies! Anyone else trying to work on family or health issues this new year?

Well, this year I finally became peaceful with the fact that I don’t have a relationship with my living family members. I am okay with it. It isn’t what I would have chosen, but of the available options, I am happier with this. I decided at a certain point that I didn’t have time for people who made me unhappy. I gave up trying to fix things that couldn’t be fixed, or trying to deal with relationships that were 50% shitty. . It wasn’t easy to get to this place, so my resolution is to keep moving forward. However it goes for you, I wish you peace and happiness. :)

I’m on the fence about family issues. My dad and I had another conversation about how we communicate and decided to do better, and I can (and will) hold the line about that, mostly because it will entail me saying “You’re not listening to me. Call me back when you’re willing to do so.” But much of my family spent Christmas in a tiny town well away from home and it just reinforced how much the siblings (including me) all hate each other. Like, we get along mostly-civilly, but we do not have relationships between ourselves. I’m trying to decide whether I care enough to change that, and if I do, with who, because of course there are family-politics concerns to any sibling I might want to have a relationship with.

      Good luck with your family!

well my year started with me finding out that my awful, abusive, estranged father had a fall and is now in a wheelchair (although apparently that is temporary) and my parents want to re-connect with me and my family.

They genuinely seem to be putting an effort in and are speaking to me like a human.

As I pointed out to my husband, my father is a narcissist, but not a pervert or rapist or a killer, and sometimes I get so angry with him that I put him in that category.

I have no expectations that he will ever understand me or be proud of me or do anything for any other than selfish reasons, and that he lies, and that he hoards information. he has been in the wheelchair for nearly 6 months now and only just told me.

Also my mother is completely under his control and I want to reach out to her.

So now I want to adjust to speaking to them on the phone every other week, which is a very big change in my world.

Proceed with extensive caution! I understand that primal need to have a relationship with even bad parents; mine weren’t the best. Also - maybe I’m wrong, but didn’t your husband tell you a short while back that he wanted a divorce? Sounds like you’ve worked things out, so that’s great!

I’m watching the 6th Harry Potter movie and I forgot how much it sucked (I mean, all the movies sucked, tbh). It’s my favorite book and oh my god it’s painful to watch. Why did they burn down the Burrow?? Where do the Weasley’s live now??? And the acting! *cringe*

The BBC really needs to start working on the 40 hour book adaption series.

The burning down of the Burrow is just so. useless. I really don’t know what they thought they were adding to the story, other than that Harry and Ginny like each other a lot, which we’d been told, if not shown, often enough to get the point across.
Weirdly, the thing about Movie 6 that bums me out the most is that Neville and Belby are the waiters at Slughorn’s party. Just...ick.

One of the great things about the books was that Rowling never unnecessarily killed people. When people died, there was always a reason - it revealed something about the person doing the killing or it moved the plot forward in some way. She has said that the only death she regretted was Florean Fortescue because it was unnecessary. Burning the Burrow was the peak of unnecessary. The only reason to do it would be if the Weasleys needed to be out of their home for some reason (like their new home is next door to someone so they get information that leads to finding a horcrux or something). That doesn’t happen though... they evict the Weasleys and nothing comes of it!

eta: I agree, the Slughorn thing is really icky.

I read 62 books last year (64 if you count proof reading someone’s unpublished novel) so my goal for this year is to read at least 65 books.
