    Strangulation is a class D violent felony offense, punishable by up to seven years in prison

    Slight side note, I want to give a shoutout to my friend who helped in some of the work to get strangulation put in as a separate felony crime distinct and more serious than just domestic abuse. It’s only been in the law for 5 years (as part of a national push by advocates for DV victims) at this point, but it’s vital, considering how studies show that DV cases involving strangulation are at the highest risk to escalate to serious bodily injury or death. You do not put your hands around someone’s neck in anger unless you want to kill them, and so it’s great to see the law used like this.

      I didn’t know this. When I was assaulted he put his hands around my neck four times. Once to throw me a few feet and another time to call me a drama queen and “show” me what it would it feel like if he “really wanted to kill” (his words) me.

      The next day he said “I never hit you. I don’t know why you’re so upset.” I’ve always felt a little weird that I know I would have been more comfortable with a legitimate punch than the strangling and I’m oddly comforted to know that others understand this weird distinction.

      (I’m fine, btw. He’s history and with therapy I’ve understood why I allowed that relationship to get to that point.)

    He’s a sad, pathetic Howard Stern wannabe. Tried to emulate and copy him for so many years, but his lack of talent only got him so far. He must be so angry and frustrated. Say what you want about Stern’s radio show, but its lasted over 35 years and not once has he been arrested for anything, let alone physical assault.

      I was just talking about this topic yesterday. Humor can be mean or gross or offensive sometimes. But being mean or gross or offensive is not humor in and of itself.

      That’s the thing so many people don’t understand. You can not like Stern’s humor and think it’s not funny but it is humor. Cumia is just an asshole.

      My thoughts exactly! I came across a tumblr post yesterday that mentioned this same thing. Like, how disgusting it is when a public person (especially a woman) does something we disagree with and we (the general, cultural “we”) start piling on with the derogatory comments or the calls for her abuse. It’s as if we already thought of every nasty thing to say or wish upon her, and now we have the opportunity to air it all because she did something shitty. I’m all for calling people out for their ignorant shit, and people should be held accountable for their words and behaviors, but no one is deserving of abuse.

      (I hope this comment makes sense. My body is moving way faster than my brain today.)

    Those tweets are horrifying..I cannot believe such hateful men are in the world, harboring such contempt for women. Jesus.

    One look at this man’s face and you can see he is an alcoholic boor. I heard a very brief clip of his show once and was appalled at the sheer stupidity and misogyny.

    I was on the radio for years and cannot believe who gets on the air these days.
