Gotta protect that Saudi safe space.

For some reason a lot of liberal people have a huuuge hard-on for al jazeera.

To be fair, Al Jazeera America, which did run the piece, is genuinely pretty liberal, even by comparison to Al Jazeera English, which is more liberal than the most-watched American news outlets.

Western journalists are in no position to criticize countries who suffered Imperial Colonialism via Europe or the U.S.

When Wahhabism kicks the bucket, the entire world will be a better place. It’s like the Opus Dei of Islam in its extremism.

This is a thoroughly secular thing: Rich owner of news service quashes story to protect rich politician friends. When corrupt oligarchy kicks the bucket, though, shit’ll be great.

Yeah, I was making a more general statement on the fact that Qatar and Saudia Arabia are all buddy-buddy because they are ruled by Wahhabi fascists.

I read Gawker quite regularly still (don’t ask me why), and I did not learn about the Saudi Arabian bumper crop of death sentences. I only learned about it indirectly through this story of yours criticizing Al Jazeera.

It is a bit surprising, because the death sentences include a poet who has been sentenced for the content of his writings. That should be something important for Gawker. I believe you guys still call yourselves writers, right?

Perhaps the title of this post should be “AlJazeera partially censors story about Saudi Arabaia executions. Gawker sensors it completely.”

Gawker would care more if the poet was on death row in a southern American state, wrote a letter to Hamilton about how despite killing six people, he was screwed over by the Man, and while in prison, he learned the valuable skill of how to fix VCR’s so if he were released, he would be a model citizens.

The entire media takes a blind eye to Saudi human rights abuses, not least Gawker Media. Not that it isn’t par for the course for the United States to prop up and fund religious fascists or fascists in general. (See: Israel, Central America, South America, etc.)

From 2003: “Saudi Arabia is the wellspring of radical Islam, its primary source of sustenance and inspiration. Yet, since September 11, the Bush administration has consistently ducked the truth about Riyadh’s role in nurturing terrorism — and concealed the truth as well. Given the many business and personal ties binding the president, his family and his associates to the House of Saud, George W. Bush’s see-no-evildoer attitude toward the Saudis is a vulnerability just begging to be exploited by the Democrats.”

Of course the Democrats never did exploit that weakness, and aside from pieces folded into the sands of time, neither did the media.

Cue the apologists pointing fingers at the “western media” for doing the same or worse. In three, two..

Every time middle eastern, Russian or Chinese media is called out in any way they come out of the woodwork.

I feel less sorry for the Russian and Chinese apologists, though, since I know they're making $0.10 a comment.

Considering Al Jazeera’s reputation as top-notch news service, this is actually pretty damn bad for themselves.

Yeah, I have friends who refuse to watch or read anything from any other news service because they don't trust them, but they think Al-Jazeera is the most unbiased. I have been inclined to admire Al-Jazeera's thoroughness, but this is just ridiculous. I'm done with them.
