I don’t know about anyone else but I’m looking forward Miranda’s trip-hop fueled play about Millard Fillmore.

That first paragraph alone is enough to make me safely say I never want to read anything written by Spencer Kornhaber ever again.

You were a real star in freshman English, Spence, we get it.

That’s just because you want someone to -ian your name too and you don’t think it’ll ever happen.

..Well surprise because I wish you and yours a very hip-brooklyn-stereotypian Happy Holidays and a Nefertittian New Year!

Listening to a rapper like Future, you feel like he’s transmitting directly from his brain.

He forgot to mention that what’s in his brain ain’t worth shit. He writes that as if it’s something to be valued.

As for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s work, it’s really too cute by a half. It’s so much less clever and less important than it sells itself as. The praise heaped on the guy is more often than not cringe-worthy.

I agree. Haven’t seen the show, but I listened to the album.

What annoys me more are these fans: “I NEVER though I would ever like something with Hip-Hop in it!”

Most of the people going bat-shit over this show don’t give damn about any of the would be influences of the artists that created it. The fans will cheer and sing-a-long in their cars, but they’re not going out to buy a Nas album or KRS-One album or even a more up to date Kendrick Lamar album. Largely, I’m seeing white people claim this shit as their own and leaving it at that. As if Hip-Hop was finally cool after Hamilton or something.

Rather than being dismissive because someone’s new to something, or their gateway to it wasn’t hard core enough, welcome them. Educate them. It’s a teachable moment. Hamilton is popular, and therefore, yes, people will be exposed to it knowing nothing of its influences. Suggest other things they might like now that they’re willing to consider trying something that previously they would’ve rejected out of hand. Everyone has to start somewhere. You want more people to appreciate things you appreciate? Here’s your chance!

I don’t know too many people who have hopped on the Hamilton hype train, but all the ones I do know are of a type, that’s for sure. They are less interested in talking about Hamilton than they are in talking about how much they love Hamilton. It reflects well on them, you know.

YES! And to add: they are more interested in talking about their feelings and how much they cry while listening to Hamilton. What I find kind of annoying is that this demographic seems to be mostly white women who completely ignore the racial commentary and marks of the musical. It’s all about their tears!

Book of Mormon was really overrated.

    So was Avenue Q.

So I have no doubt the same thing has happened with Hamilton.

I BELIEVE...that you’re entirely wrong about Book of Mormon

I BELIEVE...that the only terrible thing about it was that it launched Josh Gad’s career

AND I BELIEVE...that when I saw it on tour in STL, the “the Garden of Eden is located in Jackson County, MO” line brought the house down, since many of us know that Independence, MO (where Mormons think Adam ‘n’ Eve hung out) is full of used-car lots and a Gates that got arson’d.

Anyone see Lin-Manuel Miranda on the Tonight Show? Fallon was so manic over him I thought his head was going to explode. It’s like he wanted to crawl inside Miranda’s mouth and live in his body. Honestly, it was embarrassing.

The hype about Wicked at least had two obvious factors (having a “be yourself no matter what!” message that spoke to theatre kids, plus the source material being arguably THE bedrock of the Standard Gay Canon) that made it popular.

Hamilton, though...it just seems like “Rap: The Musical” from Mr. Show got updated for the #thinkpiece set.

Only if you give me St Louis Blues vs Chicago Shitehawks tickets, at the UC preferred but I’ll also take Scottrade, in return.

Mostly because I really, REALLY want to shout profanities at that fucking rapist piece of human garbage Patrick Kane and see Vlad tear them apart, again.

Hamilton hasn’t even gone on tour yet. The only people who have gotten to see the show live are people in New York with the money to splurge on much-coveted tickets. Can we wait to put a moratorium on talking about this clearly effective work until students and families across America have gotten the chance to get on board the hype train too?
