Black naturalistas have been doing the co-wash for years (washing with conditioner) and it actually is really good for our hair. Maybe it depend on the texture?

I say this to everyone. It’s the curly girl no-’poo system made palatable for boring white women who think not stripping your scalp with shampoo every day is the same thing as being a dirty diseased garbage person.

Also depends on your scalp. If it’s very dry, you have totally, totally different needs from a human oil factory like me. And someone who falls somewhere in between has yet other needs...

There’s no one-size-fits-all with this kind of thing. Manufacturers keep wanting consumers to think there is, but there just isn’t.

It’s a fancy shampoo/conditioner combo. Never trust those things. There’s a reason god created shampoo and conditioner separately.

I have searched the earth for a shampoo/conditioner combo that I can keep in my gym locker to cut down on the amount of stuff I have to keep in there. I’m still searching. I’ve never found one that doesn’t leave my hair a tangled mess of straw.

It’s not, though. Pert Plus is a shampoo/conditioner combo. There’s no shampoo in Wen.

lol, this sounds like hot bullshit. It’s probably some kind of skin allergy, because people slather on mystery goo without looking at the ingredients, especially if they’ve been assured it’s “natural”. Lotion does not become “impacted in one’s pores”. You can wash your hair every damn day with oil based conditioners and be fine. I do! And have for years now!

I’m more inclined to call “bullshit” just based on their own text :

“The cleansers include a perfect blend of special ingredients, including natural botanicals and herbs, and do not contain sodium laurel sulfate or harsh chemicals.”

“Special ingredients” = fuck you. “Natural botanicals and herbs” = again, fuck you, this is meaningless. And a triple fuck-you for “sodium laurel sulfate.” IT’S “LAURYL,” YOU IGNORANT SHIT-PEDDLING FUCKSTICKS.

I believe these customers. I’m sure Wen works fine for people with completely normal scalp oiliness or for people with dry scalp but for someone like me who is prone to issues with seborrheic dermatitis Wen would wreak havoc on my scalp/hair. I’ve been told by a dermatologist that not using shampoo on my scalp clogs the pores in my scalp and will lead to hair loss (the shortened version of what happens). My hair was falling out in clumps because I wasn’t washing my hair enough. It took months to reverse it and even now I’m stuck with short hairs around my forehead and on my crown due to this issue. It was very emotionally traumatizing (which sounds silly but it’s true). People need to realize that the one-size-fits-all system for anything doesn’t work for everyone.

That doesn’t sound silly at all! When I was dealing with severe hair loss it was terribly upsetting.

I persisted and finally found a combination of supplements, treatments, and shampoos that work for me, and a lot of it has come back! But it took a few years, and it was a rough few years. Hair loss is a real hit in the confidence.

I don't want to pry, but I have been dealing with this lately. Not severe loss, but still awful!! Do you have any advice? My doctor basically said I have to wait three months (length of hair cycle) before she will consider that it isn't just a fluke. Would appreciate any insight!! Thanks in advance.

Huh. I mean... I use Wen. Haven’t experienced this. I really like it actually. I don’t lose more hair with it than with any other hair cleansing product I’ve used.

Me too, it makes my hair feel super clean without the giant POOF of regular shampoo.

Yeah. My hair is curly and sucks up moisture, so regular shampoo (which I admit, I still use infrequently - maybe once a month or so) just dries it out and makes it fuzzy and feel brittle. My hair behaves best when I use Wen - and I’ve tried other cleansing conditioners but they don’t seem to work quite as well for some reason. I do rotate other brands in occasionally, though, because Wen is EXPENSIVE.

There are very few non-lathering creamy substances I’ll allow in my hair. I was suspicious about this stuff as soon as I saw Chaz’s greasy mop.

I’ve been using Wen for a while. It’s not the be-all-end-all hair product they advertise it as, but it’s a really excellent conditioner.

However, the directions on the bottle tell you to use an INSANE amount. I heard the reason it makes people’s hair fall out is because it clogs the follicles. I can't really blame people though since that's what the directions tell you to do!

I just use it like regular conditioner and I definitely don’t put it on my roots.

Yeah the amount they tell you to use is insane. And then when people had problems the company suggested they weren’t using enough? GTFO.

It definitely sounds sketchy when they’re telling you you’ll need 5 pumps (or more) of product for one washing. You’re guaranteed to run out quickly and then have to shell out for another expensive bottle. That’s the only reason I haven’t tried Wen and am sticking to Deva Curl.

1 tbsp baking soda. 1 cup water. Shake.

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar. 1 cup water. Shake.

Lasts for a month. You’re welcome.

IF it works for you, my hair can’t handle the pH change and starts breaking within a few days of usage! Meanwhile my hair loves this stupid Wen crap but my skin doesn't tolerate it well.

I use Batiste Dry Shampoo and fear that it’s making my hair thin as well. There seems to be a lot more scalp showing in the spots where I normally spray.... Anyone else have a similar experience or an I just the lucky one?

Well I’m screwed. I recently cut my hair to just above my shoulders, and noticed it gets greasy on day two after a wash. But I’m also in the middle of a dry scalp outbreak, so I don’t want to wash my hair everyday and planned on trying out dry shampoo.
